UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva was recently interviewed by Brazilian cable channel SporTV. The TV show [Sensei SporTV], featuring Spider, will air on September 27, but the editors released a shocking excerpt from the interview with Silva, when the champion spoke on his retirement from MMA:

"I'll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don't need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I'll put my gloves aside."

Ana Hissa, the editor who contacted us with this breaking news, was emphatic, saying that Silva mentioned retirement several times. This was unimaginable for them because Silva is in the best stage of his career and is the king pin of UFC's 185 pounds division.

We where unable to reach the fighter to add more on this bombastic interview or to know if he'll leave MMA and move to Pro Boxing.

Wow... i personally didnt see this coming...
Makes sense to a point, but i'm still astonished.

I suspect the retirement talk is all about money. The only way a fighter can get money these days is with leverage. Retirement is leverage.

If Silva really only had a couple fights left, I'd hate to see them waste one on Michael Bisping, but you know that's coming.

Sharkey, you hit it right on the head....its all about leverage.

I personally don't see anyone challenging him in the middleweight division..Bisping would get absolutely destroyed by him...it would be great seeing Silva competing in the lightheavyweight division...there are several great match ups there.

Speaking of Dana's negotiations, I found a listing of the UFC FIGHT NIGHT 15 FIGHTER SALARIES AND BONUSES

I like the bonus structure...an extra 30k should bring out the best in a man...but some of these lower tier guys still get paid crap...remember Nate DIAZ was a TUF winner and he is only guarenteed 20k to win...How much money do you think Dana and the crew made of the TUF series...I am going to suggest they could probably pony up a little more cash for a TUF winner.

MAIN EVENT FIGHTERS

– Nate Diaz ($40,000/win bonus was $20,000) def. Josh Neer ($9,000)
*Each also earned an extra $30,000 for “UFC Fight Night 15 Fight of the Night”

MAIN CARD FIGHTERS

– Clay Guida ($26,000/win bonus was $13,000) def. Mac Danzig ($15,000)

– Alan Belcher ($26,000/win bonus was $13,000) def. Ed Herman ($16,000)

– Eric Schafer ($12,000/win bonus was $6,000) def. Houston Alexander ($13,000)

PRELIMINARY CARD FIGHTERS

– Alessio Sakara ($34,000/win bonus was $17,000) def. Joe Vedepo ($3,000)
*Sakara also earned an extra $30,000 for “UFC Fight Night 15 Knockout of the Night”

– Wilson Gouveia ($36,000/win bonus was $18,000) def. Ryan Jensen ($4,000)

– Joe Lauzon ($20,000/win bonus was $10,000) def. Kyle Bradley ($4,000)

If true, which i have also herd other places, i would be disappointed, but maybe fighters like him stepping down, they could become a coach and trying new and uprising stars to become great.
