Here is something I dug up in Wikopedia..

In 2007, UFC officially took over as the "king of pay-per-view". Of the 15 biggest PPV events of 2007 in North America, UFC had eight, four for boxing and three for World Wrestling Entertainment.

I think Chuck and Tito took in 1 million one time, Couture gets around 500k.most top tier guys just barely crack 100k per fight..but they you look at Oscar De La Hoya, Wladimir Klitschko, Floyd Mayweather Jr., etc etc...these guys are drawing 5 to 10 million a fight.

The PPV numbers don't support those kind of salaries....where does the money come from?

Tradition. Boxing has been around long enough for the elite members to see their salaries creep that high. Give it time and the same will happen with UFC.

Another thing to keep in mind is that boxing matches last much longer than an MMA match, and they participate much less frequently.

And finally, perhaps the question to ask here is not "Where does the money to support boxing slaries come from?", but rather" Where does the extra money generated by MMA go, if not to the fighters?"

Noad is correct.

With MMA, you're talking about one organization being the primary pay-per-view giant. That's why salaries stay low. Boxing isn't through one big org that can collect all the cash. It's individual promoters.

The money is there for these guys to make more, but right now, the UFC is keeping the cash. If Affliction dies and other decent-sized organizations keep folding, it's going to be tough to change this trend ...

Time will tell. Hopefully the salaries just keep going up.

Sick to see a guy like Clay Guida making as little as he did for his last fight. Just makes no sense.

MMA isn't as established in the nation and world like Boxing.
The UFC is tough to negotiate a decent contract with.
IT WILL GO UP! just give it time, like they said.
