Whoa, interesting news breaking today on mmaweekly.com. Olympic wrestler Ben Askren, a former U of Missouri standout, is trying his hand at MMA and has joined American Top Team. He wrestled at 163, so it could be interesting to see whether he tries to drop to 155 or if he'll go up to 170. I gotta believe Askren will be outstanding when he does finally make his debut, because you know he's not getting in the cage until he feels ready. Also, Chris Leben tested positive for steriods after his fight with Bisping. Man, Leben looked cut, but I never thought it was because of steroids. Wonder what this is going to do to that guy's career and life??? Hopefully he doesn't go off the deep end. It will be interesting to see if the UFC gives him another shot in nine months. Thoughts? |

I see Askren fighting at 170. He wrestled 174 in college, although it was rumored he could have wrestled 165, and I think 163 was probably a decent cut for him. He's also pretty tall. There's also been rumors about Henry Cejudo joining the WEC at the 135 lb weight class I believe. They kept talking about Leben being sober now during his last fight. Guess he ditched the booze for roids...idiot. |

I love that pre-UFC thing I watched about how Leben is getting his life back together. Great you quit drinking, now quit being a dirty cheater. Hope he's done forever, or they put him up against someone how ruins his career. |

What doesn't make sense is ... OK, Leben, you are in the main event. You know you're going to get tested. So why would you even think about it? How in the world do you think you're not going to get caught, especially as the main event? Just makes no sense. I want to cheer for the guy, but he's made it pretty tough. Thoughts on if he'll ever fight in the UFC again? As for Askren, I think he'll be a stud at 170. I think you guys are right, cutting to 55 is probably too much for him, especially as tall as he is. He could probably pull it off, because that guy can do anything, but it's probably better for him to keep some muscle on his body and go at 70. ASkren, because he's built such a name for himself through wrestling, is the kind of guy who may only need one or two fights before he gets a shot in the UFC. To me, it's just so awesome now that wrestlers have this outlet. |

The normal body produces 25mg of testosterone, current policy allows for 5 times that amount. The first round of tests determines the testosterone level. If someone tests over the 125 mg mark, a second round of tests a triggered to determine what the actual drug is. Stanozolol or Winstrol "V" is a water based drug that typically allows your own testosterone rate to dip to the acceptable 125 mg range if you come of it 2 to 3 weeks in advance.....and bypass the second round of tests which actually pin points the drug that is being used. The first test is relatively cheap...the second round is very expensive...that's why they don't do the second test first. Don't be foolish to think Leban is the only MMA fighter out there who is using steroids...the amount of punishment these guys endure is incredible, and for them to be fighting every three months, just doesnt' seem possible. Does that mean everyone is using it?....Maybe not....but I would suggest many are. |

Yeah, but its not what you can suggest, its what you can prove. Maybe if Leben spent more time training and less time painting his fingernails he would have fared a little better. He juiced and still lost. What a loser. |

I would love to see Johny Hendricks vs Ben Askren at 170 pounds. I think Hendricks will be a top fighter in that class in a year or two. He has such a desire to be the best. I think Hendricks over Askren. |

Exactly. Why would Dana want a more expensive 2nd test when most can get by with the first test? It costs him money and most fighters can get around it. The more fighters roided up, the better the product. If what you're saying is true, I'm disappointed with the UFC, especially if they aren't testing the championship fighters immediately with the 2nd test. |

Sadly, this is (or at least was) the same format the IOC conforms to for testing Olympic Athletes. |

Throw in Jacob Volkmann to this list. He is the toughest pound for pound for the 3. Askren funk may suit him the best for ground fighting and sumbmissions, and Hendricks may have the best motor. Can't wait! |
