Former 165 lber for the Minnesota gophers in 2000-2004 One of just fthe few wrestlers in school history to have three top-four finishes at the NCAA Championships. He also wrestled for the Minnesota Storm and placed 1st in a Greco world championship in 2005. Jacob Volkmann is doing extremely well in MMA. He just had his 8th fight for the VFC welterweight belt on 12/5/2008. His record is 8-0 and he seems very solid. For those of you who are not familiar with the VFC. Every wrestler that has held the VFC belt has eventually made it into the UFC, Pride, or Affliction. So that's pretty cool to see him doing very well. I've seen him roll around with Sean Sherk and he's very fun to watch. I'd keep an eye out for that name. Another name to watch out for in the near future is Nik Lentz. |

Jacob recently won the World grappling Championship in Switzerland, and is trying to get a fight with UFC vet, Chad reiner, 3/29. Nik Lentz just made the next "The Ultimate Fighter" season (they turned down Volkmann) |

That is so dissappointing!! Jacob would have been great for that show. Nik will be fun to watch. I think his game is very solid. There are some really good fighters coming up in the ranks for sure and I can't wait to tune in. |

How in the hell do they turn down Volkmann?? 3 time AA and 8-0 fighter. Maybe they will just sign him without the show. |

He probably wasn't a lunatic. Thats most likely why he didn't make it. Hope he gets the fight with Reiner, seen that kid fight... he has skillz. Go Volkmann. Go Lentz too, nice to see faces on tv from around the state. |

Volkman is a very mild-mannered and mellow guy off the mat or out of the ring...extremely quiet. Quite frankly I'm not surprised he didn't make it because he's not the kind of guy that would boost their ratings for that show and that's what the show is all about. Volkmann isn't going to talk crap to other competitors. He'd be the guy in the corner staring at the other competitors as he out-works all of them. TV footage of him wouldn't be very entertaining to most...I'd love watching it but most people watching that show want to see the drama. |

Well yes. He has a very interesting personality. It's funny talking to Marty Morgan. He always said that whenever there was a fight in the wrestling room he always knew it had something to do with Volkmann. I don't know much about Volkmann personally, but I think getting into a lot of fights would have been great for tv world. Nik Lentz seems very kept to himself, and not someone I could see myself getting into a brawl with. Volkmann seems to always be getting into fights. |

If this was Survivor then getting into a fight brings flavor. But this is a show about fighting...fighting itself is expected. Volkmann may have gotten into fights in the wrestling room but I can almost promise that it was due to his physical nature and not because he was running his mouth. |

Volkman would make terribly boring television. Unless he could be sinister and give the other contestants chiropractic adjustments that hinder their performances. Muahahaha! |

Idk. Nik Lentz is a great, and super nice guy, but he's going to be a boring guy for tv. When you have a geeky farm boy like Jacob Volkmann who will just piss people off from the way he trains because he is just unintentionally rough and has that don't care attitude. He's going to piss people off and besides him being "oh so boring" he's going to get into fights and he'd make for some pretty entertaining tv. |

Yeah, but Lentz will lead story hour as he recounts anime plotlines for the fighters' entertainment. The only conflict I have ever had with Volkman is when he got mad at me for talking while sparring him. He does train rough though. Some of those boys probably wouldn't expect that. |

Volkmann would be more entertaining for a tv personality, but we'll just have to see. I think Volkmann will do better in his career as well although Lentz is a really good fighter. |

Could Volkmann make 155 if he cut? I heard he walks around at 170. Is this true? |

He could make that weight with no problems. He just does not like to cut. I think for him to compete at the top level though he will have to make the ccut eventually. Money will make him move! |
