Just pondering here...

I am a female training at an MMA/modern street fighting gym. In most sports female athletes do not bring the same amount of attention or $$ as males, which I can't do much about. I have really only watched Gina Carano fight and I think I have a biased opinion because I am female.

Do female fighters get attention more for their looks or actual respect for their fighting abilities?

Is it as exciting to watch a female MMA fight as males?

I don't post on here too often but I enjoy reading all of the discussions and predictions...thank you for your opinions :)

Well, I'll bite. Women can fight. Anyone who turns their head from a women's fight is crazy. Gina Carano entertains with her abilities. Although I'm pretty sure she's a babe, if its the girl I'm thinking of, people do respect that she is on the top of her game and is a force to be reckoned with... WHEN SHE MAKES WEIGHT!
Cyborg is also very good. Are the fights better or worse? I couldn't judge really...

Its cool you're steppin into the fight game... help those women reach a new level!

I think Female fights can be exciting but like a lot of sports female fighters are not as fast, powerful, or as exciting as male fighters. That's in general, there are some boring male fighters but it's more of a style problem with the guys.

Either way, if you put two good female fighters in the ring, I'll watch. If you put two good Male fighters in the ring, I'll watch. There are just way more exciting male fighters than exciting female fighters.

Now, as far as looks go: Yes, I'm much more likely to watch some good looking gals fight than some plain looking ones, all other things being equal. I suspect a good looking male fighter would get more attention from the female fans as well.

I wonder if it is the 3 minute rounds have something to do with all the action...seems like women fights are prone to having a little more action...

perhaps I'm a in the minority, but I would never turn away from female fights. I loved them in high school and love to watch them in any form of combat. However, to sell they have to be hot. I don't want to watch women fight who look like guys. Carano turns heads because she looks like a model with big boobs. Without a doubt they have skills but it's like womens basketball, it's kind of boring unless your the the top of the heap. Call me a pig, I'm fine with that, but they will never bring in the money top guys in MMA do. Same as NBA/WNBA.

Females get more attention for their looks. That fact is reinforced when you say you have only watched Gina Carano fight, and you yourself are a female training in MMA. Its not like she's the only girl fighting by any means.

I don't think they will ever be as exciting as men. I mean, its kind of cute watching two girls duke it out, but I'd be a little peeved if I had girl fights on pay-per-views that I was paying $50 for.

Question, Did you pay for a Kimbo fight?? talk about a sleeper to watch.

I like the females that are out there and they train extremely hard. As far as exciting I have seen many fights now that were pretty darn good and definitely better than many of the men fights out there. That being said I enjoy the guys much better because they are more athletic and you will see much more in the way of BIG FIGHTS!

Lets just watch the best of what is out there that is what I want. Including the 145 pounders.

PEEVED????

No... I didn't pay to watch Kimbo fight... and I probably would be peeved, perturbed, whatever you wanna call it, if he was on the main card of a UFC pay-per-view that I spent $50 on. As much as I love the guy.

Also, haven't all of Kimbo's fights ended in a TKO or a KO? Including his loss? Only one of his fights has gone longer than the first round I believe. I guess if first round finishes are considered sleepers to watch, he's guilty of that for sure.

You all know I hate Kimbo, what he stands for, and how his career skyrocketed.

But to his credit, he really didn't ever put on a boring fight...
Good Call, D.

Thanks brah. I mean, he popped a dudes ear in the only fight that went out of the third round. That's disgusting/hilarious.

Ok, since we are going to discuss this let me say that I love MMA and everything it has to offer. I have seen many many fights go the distance that I was more impressed than a short fight where both guys were not all that talented.

The Thompson fight to me was so brutal in the negative sense I thought it had to have been fixed. Kimbo on the ground was terrible (I could have finished him) and I am not Josh thompson. Just watch that fight and tell me it was ugly!!!!!

The ear thing was even more stupid... who wouldn't drain there ear before a fight like that. C'mon just ask any of the fighters you know that was just poor.

I hate the stalling in a boring fight, but there is some real good ground games that all too many people who have no idea whats happening just want to see smash em up.

Now as far as the original post there are many good female fighters that never have a dull fight. That was my point and just my opinion.

I want to see this sport grow!

...I truly have only seen ONE bad female fight...It was Kim Couture's last fight vs Lina Kvokov..OMG I am sure that Kvokov had never fought before...she literally turned her back on Couture and started running away..she was then openly crying after the fight..she had a look on her face afterwards that suggested that she didn't realize she was going to get punched in the face..it truly was embarrassing <_< ..

Ok, to this latest bunch of posts.....

I would almost have to pay to see 2 guys fighting and one turning away and then crying after. Too funny for me.

Maybe we should have MMA's version of the american idol where all the think they cans compete along with the skilled ones. MMA meets tough man lol!

we could all cheer on the Clay Aitkin wantabees
