I am a little confused as to how Sean Sherk isn't ranked as a Lightweight but Kenny "the running man" Florian is. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templa...d=8002&zoneid=2 The latest MMAWeekly World MMA Rankings were released on Wednesday, January 21. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from all across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted weight classes. Taken into consideration are a fighter's performance in addition to his win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport. Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension. Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration. Mauricio "Shogun" Rua lost his eligibility for Top 10 consideration in September of 2008 due to not having competed for a 12-month period. After defeating Mark Coleman at UFC 93 in Dublin, Ireland, this past weekend, Rua once again became eligible. I could not give Sherdog the time of day for how bad their rankings are. Whether you like Sean Sherk or not he is not on there??? Brock at the bottom with Randy above him???? Robbie Lawler? Nate Marquardt? Dan Henderson below these guys?????? Now I am even mad for wasting my time on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

They are the National Inquirer of MMA Rankings. Sometimes they are so off I think they are joking, I think they do it for attention, because no panel could come up with the BS they produce. MMAweekly used to be my favorite site, but they are a slow news source, there rankings suck and there forum went from the best to one of the worst out there. |

Nice sight, but I stopped at HW! Cro cop in the top 10 NO Couture below Kharitonov NO just to name a few at HW, they were awful. But none is perfect for sure. I like fightmatrix.com it is non biased system computer rankings. Top 100 very cool. Based on record, who you beat how. the only thing that bothers me is if you upset a top guy you Instantly become a top guy. No matter if it was a flash KO or a beatdown. I agree with it when you are undefeated and you beat a top guy, time off well there is nothing to say you are not and evidence now to suggest you are. But if you lost your last fight to a Christian Wellisch and then flash KO Gonzaga, you shouldnt be ahead of GG. But this is rare. I like these the best just because it uses alot of variables and is non biased. Some sights just cant get them selfs to let go of the greats, Cro cop, c |

I'm lovin' Aoki at #1. Bold move, but I like it. Sherk could be up there for sure, but he's only fought once since BJ Penn, and in the weight class those guys have tons of fights. so maybe that's why. |

I think Nick Thompson should be up there if Eddie Alvarez is up there. Eddie Alvarez hasn't fought any big names. he just has a good record. Nick Thompson and Aoki are the only guys who have beat them. Aoki vs Sherk would be nice to see |

I hate that Cro Cop is rated over Lesnar. The Lawler (#2 rating) is accurate, he is THAT good. I hate KenFlo... (angry angry face!) Also, Sherdog is decently accurate, fun to read threads on, and sometimes news-updated... Just be happy there's a site for MMA at that big of caliber... |

I spoke to Sean Sherks's brother Kerry at Forest lake....apparently Sean messed up his knee in his last fight against BJ...he did the surgery thing now he is healing up...Kerry didn't have any news on when he would be back in action...I wonder if Kenny "the running man" Florian is foolish enough to be looking for a redemption match. |

http://www.sherdog.com/news/articles/huert...-contract-15722 Huerta Passes on UFC Contract 15722 Roger Huerta wants to flex a new muscle. The popular lightweight has turned down a new five-fight contract with the UFC to pursue a career in acting in 2009. Huerta has one more fight on his current contract with the UFC that will see him back in the Octagon some time before December. After that, Huerta said he’d re-evaluate his options. “I’m not burned out [with fighting],” said Huerta. “I have one fight left with the UFC and I want to honor that. As soon as they tell me to fight, I’ll fight my last fight on the contract.” After getting bit by the bug last summer shooting a role in the film “Tekken,” Huerta said the timing felt right to tackle a wholly different challenge. “I saw that you have to dedicate as much as you do to training for a fight as you do for an acting role and I’m intrigued by that,” said Huerta. “I’m 25 years old. I see Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture and they didn’t really hit their primes till their thirties. I’m only going to be young so long and I know that movies and agencies and what not want the young look.” The handsome bi-lingual fighter was pushed heavily on the press following his rousing victory over Leonard Garcia at UFC 69 in April 2007. The performance landed the Minneapolis resident the cover of Sports Illustrated that May – a first in the sport’s 15-year history. However, Huerta believes it was his gut-wrenching performance against Clay Guida at “The Ultimate Fighter 6” finale in December 2007 that brought on his popularity with fans. “I felt naked after that fight because I gave everything I had in there, from physical abilities to my emotions,” said Huerta. “I was a little messed up in the head for the next two months. That last round took a lot out of me. I went to another level mentally.” Though Huerta (20-2-1, 1 NC) fought and won five times in 2007 -- culminating with the Guida bout -- his schedule became muddled the next year. In 2008, he entered the cage only once and lost to Kenny Florian via unanimous decision at UFC 87 last August. Huerta’s contract was extended for two six-month periods during that time due to his inability to commit to fights that were offered to him. Over the summer, Huerta made plans to return to Augsburg College, but the opportunity to play Miguel “The Matador” Rojo in the feature film adaptation of the popular video game “Tekken,” proved too good an opportunity to pass up. Huerta remains one class shy of his Bachelor’s Degree, while the film, in which Huerta has a small speaking role, is due out in fall 2009. Huerta also turned down a fight with Joe Stevenson at UFC 95 on Feb. 21 in London, due to “personal family issues.” Stevenson will now face Diego Sanchez instead. Huerta’s reps believe the fighter’s future in film looks promising. Huerta recently signed a three-movie development deal with Lion’s Gate films, whose recent projects include “The Transporter 3” and “The Spirit.” “Roger loves fighting for the UFC, but it doesn’t make sense for him to re-sign and continually let them down when he can’t take fights due to other projects,” said Huerta’s manager Jeff Clark, of NCFC Fight Management. “They have a business to run and schedules to keep as well.” Still, others might see a different motivation for Huerta’s decision not to sign on the dotted line this time around. Huerta caused waves last July in an interview with Fight! Magazine where he voiced discontent with the UFC’s pay scale and the public relation responsibilities placed on fighters for little to no pay. Huerta said he was spread too thin between appearances and his first movie role at the time and misspoke. “I was thinking like a young kid,” said Huerta of the infamous interview. “I’m young and people make mistakes.” Huerta and his management downplayed any ill will with Zuffa LLC., which owns the UFC. In fact, Huerta says his relationship with UFC owners Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White, the promotion’s president, has never been stronger. “I personally look up to Lorenzo and Dana,” he said. “This sport wouldn’t be where it is without them. With the $40 million in the hole and Dana grinding it out through everything, and putting the sport on the map, we owe them a lot.” Without his income from fighting, Huerta said he’ll supplement his bank account with appearances and seminars while he takes acting classes. He also plans to join one of his trainers in Los Angeles for auditions through a talent agent who coordinates with his NCFC fight management. He said he had no plans to talk to other promotions once his UFC contract’s non-compete period is satisfied some time around April 2010. “The UFC is my home and it is my family and eventually I’ll come back,” said Huerta. “Pursuing the modeling and acting thing, that’s kind of where I’m at right now. The fighting will always be there. I’ll always have that in me. The truth is I’ve been fighting my whole life for everything, and this to me, is something else.” |

Stupid move, Aoki just lost to Hansen months ago! Penn is the top LW and if they were to fight, Aoki would have less then 10% of the vote, because the only way Aoki wins is by sub and he aint subbing BJ. Penn was #1 and did nothing to lose that status. Gomi when he was #1 he lost to Aurelio and to Diaz and remained #1 somehow. LW rankings see to be a hard chore for the weekly! Aoki would lose to Florian and Sherk neither fight would be close. Vs Sherk he would not get it on the ground and Sherk would dominate the stand up and if it did go to the ground Aoki would not sub him. Florian also way to good on the ground and is light years ahead of Aoki in every other aspect of the game. I would take Josh Thompson over Aoki |

It makes sense to me. Aoki just subbed a guy who beat Jansen before. I think they favor the Japanese fighting lightweights because they are fighting top 10 competition all the time. BJ has fought 3 times since June of 07. Jens Pulver is one of them, and he's completely irrelevant, Joe Daddy and Sean Sherk who aren't even ranked top 10. Then you have Aoki who has fough 6 times since April of 08, with wins against Eddie Alvarez, JZ, and Caol Uno. He had a loss against Joachim Hansen, but they are still 1-1 against eachother, and Alvarez beat Joachim and Aoki handled Alvarez. I can easily see their reasoning behind putting BJ at #2. |

LOL at Florian being better at Aoki on the ground. That can't be a serious comment. Sherk could be ranked, but not Joe Daddy, as much as I love the guy. So BJ has fought two BORDERLING top 10 guys. Aoki has fought 4 solid top 10 guys. Uno isn't that great, but he had just beat Ishida which was a big win at the time, and just think Uno was 5th best out of the 6 guys Aoki fought in that time period. BJ Penn could very well be the best, but he really hasn't done much to prove it. |

Based on what? Middleweight just happens to be the one upper weight where the UFC doesn't have a majority of the best fighters. |
