Wiuff's even fighting down here that card? This is ridiculous... I save up all my good deeds to get UFC 84(?) with my boy Machida on it, and find myself unhappy and wanting to catch local action... Where's my Dana rant here? :) |

If the show happens, it will be great. But right now, it's a mess. There are still three or four fights with no opponent. There are some amazing names on the card. If it comes together, it could be the best ever in Roch. Right now, I'm not hopeful though. I still haven't heard from the promoters, and I have their free ink! Not sure what I'll do that night ... I'm torn. I may go to the fights and order the PPV when I get home! It should be noted that Logan Clark is not fighting!!!!! Despite what the radio ads say ... |

Does anyone know for sure if this show is happening ? If they keep getting cancelled, people are going to start losing interest in the local shows. I definitely want these local fights to continue, i'm planning on going Saturday night and have a buddy taping the PPV. |

Yes, the show is definitely on. It's a 100 percent go. Card is set, and it's stacked ... I'm very impressed by what they've put together. I talked to the promoters today, and I'll give you guys full details tomorrow ... story will be in the PB on Wednesday. Should be a great event. I'm going to watch the fights, then head home and buy the UFC on the replay at midnight! Can't wait! Some big-time special guests will be there Saturday, too ... will fill you in tomorrow. |

Show is looking great. Here's the card and a few notes and records so far. Waiting to hear back from The Diesel, and then I'll post the story. Here's the complete card: 145 Ryan Stock (5-8) vs. Brandon Thong (1-0) ... should be a good matchup, Stock being the local kid against Thong, who's new to the game 155 Bruce Johnson (1-3) vs. Brandon Adamson (9-8) ... I think Johnson is in a bit over his head, but it will be a great measuring stick for him. Adamson is a Miletich guy (he's the guy who knocked out Kid Lightning with a head kick a few Battle at the Barns ago) Adamson is on a four-fight winning steak, and he's a really tough 155er. Travis Perzynski (9-4) vs. Jay Ellis (9-27) ... I always like seeing Travis fight. He's a good wrestler, and he's huge for a 155er. But Jay Ellis will be a great test, don't let the record fool you. He's a vet, and he's been in the cage with guys like Rory Markham and Bart Palaszewski. This could be fight of the night! 170 Mike Wenzel (4-1) vs. Ryan Scheeper (3-14) ... We know Wenzel is tough, but Scheeper is much better than his record. He's been in the cage with guys like Shonie Carter, and he fights a lot for Monte Cox's promotions. It's a great contrast of styles, Wenzel being a brawler and Scheeper being a great ground guy. Another fight of the night contender! Chad Reiner (20-7) vs. Craig Kaufman (8-3) ... The Grinder returns to Rochester. Reiner is fantastic on the ground, and I know he's still working on his stand-up. Kaufman is pretty much unproven. 185 Joel Schrimpf (2-2) vs. Eric Adams (1-6) ... should be a brawl! Schrimpf made one small mistake in his last fight in Rochester, so we'll see if he can bounce back. Mike Hansen (7-16) vs. Brent Mehrehoff (5-7) ... Solid matchup of two guys who took some fights they probably shouldn't have early in their careers. Heavyweight Jake Kurtz (1-3) vs Chris Barden (9-9) ... don't know much about Kurtz. If Barden comes in in shape and training hard, it should be a very good fight. Still would rather see Barden at 205! Travis Wiuff (54-12) vs. Steve Pilkington (5-7) ... this is the main event. Pilkington hasn’t fought in over a year and a half. I can't imagine this thing will last long. But you better believe Diesel will be trying to knock this guy's head off for the home crowd. |

Special guests will include BROCK LARSON!!! and Tommy Speer. Jens Pulver was supposed to be there, but he can't make it now ... guessing he's a little dinged up. But I'm guessing someone from Miletich will be there to corner Brandon Adamson. Last time McFedries cornered him in Rochester. |

Yep, this is directly from the promoters. Opponents have changed for a lot of the guys. Really, it's one of the better cards I've seen here in Rochester (on paper anyway). And it's going to be in the horsebarn! Crazy! I'm actually excited for the event ... if it wasn't a good lineup, I'd just skip it and watch the UFC. But this card has so many guys I like to watch fight, and it will be a treat to see Diesel (even if he's fighting a can) fight live and in person. He fought Babalu on the second UFC PPV I ever purchased, so I've been following him ever since then. A lot of people don't understand how close Travis was to fighting for a UFC title. Good story ... before the fight with Babalu, the UFC offered to re-work Travis' contract. The Babalu fight would have been his last fight on that contract. But Diesel knew the winner of the fight was in line for a title shot against Chuck Liddell, so he decided to not re-work the contract because if he won, he'd be getting a title shot, seemingly meaning more money. But he lost, and the UFC didn't re-sign him. Crazy how life unfolds. But Travis is a great guy, and he's a true MMA veteran. I've seen him fight on PPV five times now, so it's about time I see him in person! This show is definitely worth the $25. Great fights, plus you can come meet Tommy Speer and Brock Larson ... and watch to see who is cornering Brandon Adamson! Oh yeah, that Logan Clark guy will be in Hansen's corner, too! |

For a Rochester event it looks ok, Not the best card IMO. There are allot better up and comers and young fighters, would think they could get them. Erik Koch and Keoni Koch for example are from IA. Just to name 2. No offense, but Wiuff may well be the single most boring fighter in the biz. I think he is talented and has had a very nice career for sure, but I have to say one can only watch so long while a guy barres his face in the chest of his opponent. Not to be negative just my opinions. |

I've seen both of the Koch brothers fight, and I've tried to get the Rochester promoters to bring Erik up several times. But they get paid pretty well by the promotion down in Iowa. I would guess that's slowed things down. I also always want them to bring up Eric Wisely. Love the way he fights. At any rate, you say you're not being negative, but that's exactly what that post was. For Rochester, it's a great card. Adamson is an amazing striker. Perzynski is a very good fighter, and he has a win over Muvari on his record. Chad Reiner is a UFC veteran. Mike Wenzel is a very exciting fighter. I'm not sure what more you want from a small, local card in a venue that only holds 1,000 people. You think they're going to pour 10s of thousands of dollars into fighter salaries into a show that can only seat 1,000 people? That's not smart business. I think for the venue and the show, it's a great card. As for Travis Wiuff, I've only seen him fight like you're saying once in his life, and that was at the YAMMA tournament. He had to fight three times in one night. The first two fights were shortened, so it was Travis' strategy to take the guy down and win the round and get into the championship. His strategy worked. Against Fujita, he stood with him and knocked him out. Against Mo Lawal, he stood with him and got knocked out. Prior to the YAMMA tournament, Travis finished or was finished in nine consecutive fights. Lay and pray? Tough to finish or get finished doing that. Just sticking up for a good guy. |

Ive seen Wiuff fight many times and he usually fights like that. I would give you the point he has made efforts to change. I realize your not going to get the cream of the crop for Rochester and pour tons of cash into the show. But I should have clarified. That roster of fighters are B level at best. which is to be expected. But very few are considered even prospects. Most are fighters who are below five hundred or near 500 in respect to there records. I just kept coming back to the thread and couldn't help myself. It was negative and I apologize and I'm serious about that. I just would expect what is billed as a big card for Rochester would have at least 1 fight with two prospects and Wiuff Vs a descent fighter. The rest of the card makes sense. that being said I would probably make the trip if it wasn't a conflict with the UFC. |

Name a time in the last two years, other than the tournament, that Travis has fought like that???? Two years of finishing or being finished is a pretty long time. Yes, back in the day, Travis simply relied on wrestling. I've seen him fight many times since I started covering this sport in 2003, and over the last few years, Wiuff hasn't been anything close to a lay and prayer. Back in the day, I'd probably agree with you. As for the card here, did you expect to get a bunch of A level fighters? It's a small show. It's a good card for a small show ... it also has several guys who sell tons of tickets in Rochester (see Barden and Hansen). I've been here for three years and it's right there with any show we've had here since I moved to Rochester. The April show will be even better, when they move over to Graham Arena, which holds 2,000-plus. Just like you, these are my opinions. Been covering the sport here for three years in Rochester, and it's a good card for this town. Would I like some more prospects? Yep. Would I prefer that they let me do the matchmaking? Yep! But it's not going to happen. I've been begging them to bring back some of the boys from Leading Edge up in Canada, too, but that hasn't happened either! I don't have much pull! |

Like I said I never expected A Level Fighters, never. I stated there should be at least 1 nice match up of prospects. Travis goes all out Vs junk but against solid comp he relies on wrestling and nothing more. Now I don't want to get into his ability because lets face it, He has had a very successful MMA Career, actually he should be very proud of himself. It takes a bad ass to do what he does, don't get me wrong. But I think if you had to list your top 10 boring fighters he is on it. No matter how much he has opened up. Does that mean he would not be a draw in Minnesota, no. But I'm not excited about any Wiuff fight unless it is against a top tough guy. I dont think calling a guy boring means he is not deserving or is not a quality MMA Fighter. Alot of people say Machida is boring, I don't think so. A lot of people used to say Rashaad Evans and Koscheck were boring I never thought so. My background is wrestling and I always cheer for the wrestler, but eventually even i got a little bored with Wiuff. I was impressed with him in YAMMA. I think he has improved his style. But I still think he is boring. That being said I hope to hell he kicks ass this weekend. I also would love to see him in Adrenaline or Affliction against solid comp. I understand the financial stuff and how much they can book ect. I never said it should be better, I just stated I didn't think it looked that great, half the guys are under 500, it is tough to get up for that IMO. EC has had way better cards then that. I think they should focus on 4 man tournies when they do a card like that, it would lead to something. All this is leading to is these sub 500 guys moving on to the next fight with no future. I can understand most of the card being like that, but the whole card? I feel bad for bashing the card, because believe me that is not my style to bash a fighter ect. I would never think twice about it, but I kept seeing how good the card was and I didn't even see one fight that was intriguing were you would get a chance to see the future or to up and comers with 2-0 record Vs 8-1 or something like that. Surely a 2-0 guy with a possible bright future is some what affordable. Me and you probably would get along fantastic i believe, we both love the sport and I respect every guy that does it, even if he is 1-17, i do. No Clark No Volkman But like I said I would be there if not for the conflict. |

We'll have to agree to disagree. Travis isn't anywhere near my list of most boring fighters. He's finished or been finished in all of his fights in the last two years (again, minus YAMMA). To me, finishing fights isn't boring. At least we agree we both respect him ... |

I have been a fan MMA since UFC 1 and have never missed an event, been to 4 of them live and have seen a few IFL events live as well. I have not trained MMA, but I consider myself a martial artist I guess, I wrestled my whole life thru college. MMA is my favorite thing to follow. I was just asking because you resorted to some childish comment that had nothing to do with Wiuff and the fact I think he is boring, which by the way is my opinion. And I could post a poll on Sherdog or MMA Weekly to prove my point. Ill tell you what Hockey Lets post the poll and if it comes out most MMA fans consider Wiuff boring you leave this site for good. Ahh forget it that would be chikdish, it would prove my point, but it would be childish. And you wouldnt follow thru with it any way, i can tell what kind of person you are. But the difference between me and you is I was respectful of him and his accomplishments. Being boring has nothing to do Kimbo or if he can beat Kimbo. As I have stated before (I see you have selective hearing..typical) I'm not a fan of Kimbo. But you felt the need to jump into a debate you had no involvment in, you just thought you would be a smart ass. That is were I questioned your age. It was puzzling to me. LOL what does TUF have to do with being a fan or ones commitment to the sport? Are you one of those guys who think because you were along for the ride since day 1 you have some special membership rights or that you are some how a bigger fan? Hell it doesnt even mean you know more then the TUF bandwagon jumper. But I can see what I'm dealing with. Do you have a Sherdog Blackbelt? That way you can be one of the trolls that acts like anyone with less than 5000 posts has no clue and there opinions mean nothing. LOL Everyone is less deserving of there opinion all because you have given up some of your time to MMA. You somehow are just a bit higher level of a fan the the rest. so lets see your Judgmental TUF bandwagon jumpers? I suppose a fan who pays 500 bucks for his ticket cant boo at an MMA event because two guys are not pressing the action. You do realize as I have stated a few times, I never once wanted Kimbo to win any of his fights. But Kimbo certainly didn't hurt MMA. Maybe to the people who talk poorly of MMA it gave them fuel. But if nothing Kimbo brought new fans into the sport who now pay for PPVs and buy tickets and t shirts, all of this helps fighters salaries and for them to catch more sponsor cash. But from what I can tell MMA hasn't lost any ground. So I'm dealing with the elite of the elite of MMA fans! the man who knows best who is a true MMA fighter and who truly respects the world of MMA and knowledge beyond the rest of us. Any ways I cant continue to go around with you. Enjoy the fights this week, BJ Penn is fighting isn't he someone you can rip for being dis respectful to MMA? this guy yes is a martial artist but he is not a great representation of the MMA fighter or the sport, but some how you chose kimbo, who just took what people gave him and along the way spoke respectfully of others and the sport for the most part. Weather he belonged there or not! let me guess your a big fan of BJ Penn! |

Dude, that sentence by wrastling just described me to a T!!! HA! I had no idea what MMA was in 1991. I hate BJ Penn ... just a personal thing. He's good and all, but I'd love to see GSP crush him. Duster is on a three-match winning streak. Sherdog is for losers ... stick with the UG. I wish Goldy was still the announcer for the Minnesota Wild. Tomorrow will be a long day for me ... first Swalla Duals, then Extreme Challenge 119, then home to buy the re-play of GSP vs. Penn at midnight. I may set a record for energy drinks in one 24-hour period, since I work until 2 a.m. tonight, too. I'm getting a haircut later today. GSP is my favorite fighter. Despite what Logan Clark says, he's my favorite local fighter. It's cold outside. JUST SOME RANDOM FACTS/SENTENCES TO BREAK UP ALL THE SERIOUSNESS! Let's chill guys. We all love MMA. Nobody needs an education (well, maybe other than spelling) on here. So let's move on, watch the best fight in the history of MMA this weekend and find something we can all agree on ... like that Duster will certainly cry Saturday if Machida loses. And then he literally won't be able to come on this message board for the rest of his life without hearing about it. Peace, love, respect, MMA. |
