This forum has been pretty dead lately, so I figured posting a topic about this weekend's fights couldn't hurt.

Many people, including myself, think Jones could be the next big thing for the sport, dominating in his first four UFC wins, but he's yet to face a challenge as big as Vera. Vera's Muay Thai and leg kicks are nasty, his jiu-jitsu is hardly a liability, and he has honed his wrestling, even taking down and mounting Randy Couture in his last fight.

Dos Santos vs. Gonzaga should also be entertaining, and Cheick Kongo vs. Paul Buentello is a Knockout of the Night waiting to happen.

Thoughts? We've got some good MMA on our hands over the next few weeks.

I really like Jones and his game. Vera is a dangerous opponent for him though. Vera's kicks are the thing that can stop Bones in this one, but if I were betting my own money on this one I would go with Jones.

I think Jones wins this one by UD. Vera can stay alive but he just doesn't seem to have the heart I guess. When it comes down to the gritty he never seems to rise to the occasion.

I think Jones wins by UD as well, but it wouldn't surprise me to see Vera come out and try and finish the fight after getting screwed by the judges in his fight with Couture.

I am going to take the opposite side of the arguement. Vera has fought a lot of top guys and truly could be considered a "wily" veteran. This is is Jones first "true" contest, most of the guys he has fought so far are the "B" type fighters. I think both have a lot to lose/gain in this fight...I am looking forward to a true "throwdown" B)
