I have it and I think it works great. I'm out of high school, but I think it'd be a good off season workout for anyone. |

We have the whole system and it is great!! One bad thing though....need to stick to it even when the pain sets in. I find myself saying I'll skip just tonight and it leads to another. But it really is worth the money. |

I would say this is a must for any athlete in the off season. P90x keeps you strong, lean, limber, and keeps your conditioning up to par+. If a wrestler followed this program during the off-season it would prevent injury and cut their "comeback conditioning" in half or more when it comes to the fall. |

I am not a wrestler, but a wrestling mom. I was tired of being out of shape and tried P90x. I lost 20 lbs and feel better than ever. Not just for athletes, anyone can do this, just modify the moves to fit your needs. Edited by tazerpony, Apr 23 2010, 08:40 AM.

I would not use P90x for the offseason for wrestling. Advance wrestler would benefit more from deadlft, squat, cleans as well as a few other exercises added in. |

I agree and disagree with you. I have done this workout and it is great for athletes. GREAT! It would benefit wrestlers though, to incorporate some power lifting in the off season as well. Bench, Squat and Cleans are very important to incorporate at least twice a week during the off season. |

Ya i can see beginners using p90x or even some more experience wrestlers just to do something different but only for a few weeks. But come summer time you should a 8 week strength building cycle in place. alot of wrestler are looking to grow and add muscle and freakish strength. P90x will only firm you up and lean you out, its a beach body diet plan.. ya if you never lifted before sure you'll get stronger but not wrestling core shape, big difference. soccor moms, even has been athletes its great but no chance would i allow my guys to rely on this workout. |

I agree with you in some respects cougar. I think in the off season all wrestlers should be doing a strength or mass building routine however I think p90x can be an excellent supplement to that. If you do P90x with high rep exercises it will give freakish muscle endurance. I'm not talking like cardio endurance here i mean it can really add huge numbers of reps to your work out. P90x is like a HIIT work out if you do it right and that can add huge gains to strength, especially to those fast twitch muscles= EXPLOSIVENESS even late in third period, and most power lifting workouts won't do this for you. I think this is especially important to do in the off season because it is really hard to gain in that aspect during the season with how much your can be torn down. Really I think mixing both these types of routines in the off season would be the best idea, but not everyone wants to work that hard.

Agree to a point! But one must watch out that they don't strip the muscle of its core strength and power. Every body is different and everyone reacts different to muscle building, if its fast twitch or slow twitch muscle exercises. The key to any wrestler is making them peak. You can mix it up but you must be careful not to destroy the muscle from reacting, also don't tear down what you have built at least not in the offseason. To many people are doing to much cross-fit type exercise for to long of a period( for the purpose of sports) i could see someone doing a 8 week strength and core workout and then hit a two week fast circuit workout during the summer to mix things up (no more than two weeks) and then back to a 8 week strength and core cycle. To many weeks on a circuit will tear the muscle down and that will show in the negative performance in the athlete. My key to summer workouts is to use a 12 week strength program 4-6 reps 8 would be max, stay away from the high reps 10 or more. Then two days a week (your off lifting days) mix in tire flips, hill sprints and chain dragging! Summer is off season workout strength, size and power. Fall season is preseason workout and conditioning more fast twitch exercise, still core power lifts just not as many and up the cardio. Then the season starts all new training system. The state title run another training system..it never stops.. All training is good just get plenty of sleep thats when you get strong. Edited by CougarKILLA, Apr 27 2010, 06:02 AM.

Do you think it would be too much to do this in the morning and go into the gym and fill out my lifting card at night? |
