Main card
Middleweight Championship bout: Anderson Silva (c) vs. Chael Sonnen
Welterweight bout: Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves
Lightweight bout: Clay Guida vs. Rafael dos Anjos
Welterweight bout: Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida
Heavyweight bout: Roy Nelson vs. Junior dos Santos
Preliminary card
Light Heavyweight bout: Thiago Silva vs. Tim Boetsch
Welterweight bout: Dustin Hazelett vs. Rick Story
Heavyweight bout: Stefan Struve vs. Christian Morecraft
Welterweight bout: Johny Hendricks vs. Charlie Brenneman
Welterweight bout: Ben Saunders vs. Dennis Hallman

Thoughts?

Silva-Chonnen (thats half-Chael, half-Sonnen... tight, right?) could be decent but I'm not quite sold yet.
I'm excited for Fitch-Alves more than that matchup. that will be a good fight.
Guida never disappoints... Hughes-Almeida??? Does that matchup mean anything really?
Roy Nelson is a choad. Hendricks gets my support from just being a wrestler. and Ben Saunders looks like an idiot, so i'll be cheering for him to lose.

My magic 8-Ball tells me:

-Phil Davis will tool Rodney Wallace and start receiving Jon Jones-like hype. Wallace, on the other hand, will receive his walking papers.
-Ben Saunders will not make the mistake that Matt Hughes did twice against Dennis Hallman (going for the takedown and getting submitted in under 20 seconds), and instead pick him apart with his Muay Thai.
-Johny Hendricks will beat Charlie Brennamen by a UD while continuing to look just like his idol, King Leonidas.
-Stefan Struve will get back to using his insane height and reach advantage, and choke out Christian "World of" Morecraft.
-Rick Story will be too well-rounded for Dustin Hazelett to submit, and while he may not humiliate Hazelett like Paul Daley did, Story will grind out a decision.
-Thiago Silva will take out his anger from being on the undercard (blame that on Alves-Fitch II getting rescheduled for the 20th time), and knock Tim Boetsch out in the first round, prompting his fight to still be shown on the main card.

(The above picks can be confirmed with more sarcasm and colorful language here)

-Junior Dos Santos will beat Roy Nelson so bad, Brendan Schaub and Stevan Struve will feel it.
-Clay Guida will dry-hump Rafael dos Anjos to a unanimous decision victory.
-Matt Hughes by wrestling.
-In an ironic twist (or just a reversal of roles) Jon Fitch will be out-wrestling Thiago Alves (duh) until Alves catches him with a nasty upkick and swarms Fitch for the finish.
-Chael Sonnen will beat Anderson Silva by a Unanimous Decision. I know it's unpopular for any fighter to go in to a fight with the plan to win by decision, but I'm making an exception for Sonnen because 1) He's a wrestler 2) He's NOT. ANDERSON. SILVA.

I believe in Chael Sonnen.

Thiago Silva just pulled out of his fight with Boetsch and is being replaced by UFC newcomer Todd Brown.

Awesome ^o)

Also, Kimbo, erm, CropDuster, is your 'Chonnen' thing a reference to Ryo Chonan (the last person to actually beat Silva) or did you just think you were being clever?

I truly believe that Chael has a very good shot at beating Silva...in a three round fight....unfortunately for him it is a 5 round fight...Chael will take 2 of the first three rounds then be served up a a$$ whooping in the fourth leading to a stoppage....just one man's opinion.

Fitch will win by decision...I don't think this will be an exciting one...not a really good match up...

Its really hard to pick a winner in a Guida fight....its usually lots of offense with very little defense...guarenteed fight of the night...

Hughes is past his prime....look for the big dog to win via stoppage or a very one sided beat down.

Intelligence will have you pick Junior dos Santos to destroy Nelson...but intelligence would you pick ANYONE over Roy Nelson....Hopefully JDS takes the fight seriously and doesn't use photos as a source of motivation....JDS by beatdown.

dude, thats where Chonan rang a bell!
I kinda thought it rolled off my keyboard funny :ermm:
but no, i actually felt like making his 2 names one. Thats why I spelt it differently.
What ever happened to Ryo? that flying heel hook was tight (i think it was more of a sliding leg submission at least.)

Phil freaking Davis.
That kid has tremendous upside.
War Mr. Wonderful

thought I was being clever? I'm straight brilliant, homie.

Thiago Alves failed to make weight. He came in at 171.5 and had two hours to shed the extra half pound, which he couldn't/didn't. I think I speak for all wrestlers when I say "C'mon, man!"

On top of that, Dana White announced that the winner of Alves/Fitch will get the next welterweight title shot. This confuses me for two reasons.
1) I guess he is assuming that Georges St. Pierre will beat Josh Koscheck and/or Alves will beat Fitch (I'd bet on the former), because Fitch and Koscheck are teammates.
Edit: I guess earlier in the day Dana released a statement saying Koscheck and Fitch would have "no choice" if the situation were to arise.
2) Alves' last fight was his humiliation at the hands of GSP at UFC 100. I know Fitch is tough, but Kenny Florian is one of the top three lightweights in the world- I said before the Penn/Edgar fight that I still thought KenFlo was #2 in the world, and I personally think he would outclass Alvarez, Mendelez, and Aoki- and, the UFC is making him put up a hell of a three-fight win streak before he gets another title shot (assuming he beats Maynard). Fitch is tough, no doubt, but there's just no way that Alves should get 2 title shots in 3 fights.

Bah. At least it was an entertaining fight.

The kicker? I was watching the fight with some friends, and I said in the fourth or fifth round that I really hoped Silva didn't pull an Akiyama and get subbed late in the fight. Me and my darn mouth.

The lessons here?
1) I should keep my mouth shut.
2) Anderson Silva is HUMAN.

Sonnen needs to figure out a way to be smarter in the last minutes of a fight, this exact thing happened against Paulo Fihlio in the WEC.......he really doesnt need to be pouring it on at the end of a TITLE fight he has been dominating. Just get your gold and get out of there, then you can pour it on if you want in your title defenses. Get your gold Chael! you deserve it!

I wouldn't say he kept pouring it on at the end there, he basically just kept up with his annoying little harmless jabs he likes to do just to keep Silva occupied and try to not give him a chance to do exactly what he did. Anyone else notice that Silva didn't lose a drop of blood that fight? How do you eat that many punches and not at least bust a lip or something? Silva must have the skin of a rhinoceros.
