The board has been pretty dead lately, so I thought I'd get one of these going to hopefully pick up the conversation. Or if nothing else, get myself a few more posts :P .

The UFC really runs the table on this one. No Strikeforce champion has defended his belt since Bobby "You fatherless bastard" Southworth did in June 2008. Another list where the middle of the pack could shift around. I can't wait for Shogun vs. Jones.
Look for Hendo to hold onto it. Jon Jones should probably be higher but give him a few weeks and he will be number 1.

The UFC is absolutely loaded here, but so is the rest of the world. I flirted with not even listing Aoki out of my disdain for the guy, along with the fact that he got knocked out in the MMA round of a mixed rules match (after blatantly cheating multiple times in the kickboxing round). The Edgar/Maynard draw makes things a bit more frustrating, but seeing things play out the rest of the year should be fun.

Pound-for-pound.
1) George St. Pierre (Welterweight, UFC)
2) Anderson Silva (Middleweight, UFC)
3) Jose Aldo (Featherweight, UFC)
4) Jon Fitch (Welterweight, UFC)
5) Frankie Edgar (Lightweight, UFC)
6) Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua (Light Heavyweight, UFC)
7) Jake Shields (Welterweight, UFC)
8) Gilbert Melendez (Lightweight, Strikeforce)
9) Gray Maynard (Lightweight, UFC)
10) Dominick Cruz (Bantamweight, UFC)

Anderson Silva lost four rounds to Chael Sonnen, with at least one being a 10-8. GSP has, by my count, lost four rounds in his UFC tenure- against Matt Hughes, BJ Penn, Matt Serra, and Josh Koscheck, all of whom he has dominated in rematches since. Sonnen exposed Silva, and with GSP's black belt-level BJJ, I sincerely believe he would beat Silva if they were to fight.

The fact that the UFC has three welterweights in the top 7 pound-for-pound rankings, at least in my rankings (Sherdog's too, but what do they know?) may be surprising, but there's no doubt that GSP is light years ahead of this field.
If GSP beats Shields, GSP Silva happens.

I'm aware, but since he hasn't fought there yet, I'm not sure how he'll stack up there. I'm sure I'll probably end up with him and Tyson Griffin in the top ten at featherweight at some point.

Exposed striking game that everyone knows doesn't exist, yes. He is still one of the best grapplers on the planet but GSP will be smart and stay away. Its a shame though cuz those 2 on the ground would be fun. Go watch Shields woup up on Askren on Flo.

There was an article that said that matchup is less likely than before. GSP said he needs time to put on weight. Also, with the Penn/Fitch draw there is no clear successor for the welterweight title. I wish it was Thiago Alves but Jon Fitch's boring yet effective style put an end to that. For now.

1) Georges St. Pierre (UFC)
2) Jon Fitch (UFC)
3) Jake Shields (UFC)
4) Thiago Alves (UFC)
5) Nick Diaz (Strikeforce)
6) BJ Penn (UFC)

9) Diego Sanchez (UFC)
10) Paul Daley (Strikeforce)
Lean and Mean: Anthony Johnson (UFC), Mike Pyle (UFC), Martin Kampmann (UFC), Rick Story (UFC), Jake Ellenberger (UFC)

Once again, the UFC has the monarchy here after signing Shields, with the seemingly untouchable GSP sitting at the top.

You'll notice that I got bored and added three or four "Lean and Mean" fighters to each list of rankings.

I really have a hard time accepting Jake Shields as a top 10 fighter...yes I get he has beat some pretty impressive guys...but I truly think it was because he wasn't taken seriously by them....GSP will absolutely destroy him....at ANY position...
Maybe, maybe not. We'll find out in a few weeks. Could be a very good April for the Cesar Gracie camp with Melendez and Nick Diaz defending tonight and if Nate and Shields can come out on top on the 30th against GSP and Rory MacDonald.

I agree though, GSP vs. Shields should be very one-sided.
