I'm sorry to hear about Jacob's passing. About 5 years ago when he was living in Lindstrom, MN, Jacob volunteered to come into the room and work out with our guys when his time allowed. I remember him running conditioning with the team at the end of practice and pushing himself to the very limit. It was a good lesson for our wrestlers to see how hard a champion is willing to push himself. You could tell how much he loved the sport.

Jacob Schlottke, a warrior, is now home in the arms of Jesus.
Condolences to his family & the Apple Valley Wrestling Community.
This earth has lost a great champion.

TO AN ATHLETE DYING YOUNG

The time you won your town the race
We chaired you through the market-place;
Man and boy stood cheering by,
And home we brought you shoulder-high.

Today, the road all runners come,
Shoulder-high we bring you home,
And set you at your threshold down,
Townsman of a stiller town.

Smart lad, to slip betimes away
From fields where glory does not stay,
And early though the laurel grows
It withers quicker than the rose.

Eyes the shady night has shut
Cannot see the record cut,
And silence sounds no worse than cheers
After earth has stopped the ears:

Now you will not swell the rout
Of lads that wore their honours out,
Runners whom renown outran
And the name died before the man.

So set, before its echoes fade,
The fleet foot on the sill of shade,
And hold to the low lintel up
The still-defended challenge-cup.

And round that early-laurelled head
Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead,
And find unwithered on its curls
The garland briefer than a girl's.

Jacob was a very nice young man and a great wrestling talent. I loved watching him, especially his ankle pick.
No amount of ability is of the slightest avail without honor.

Jacob,

We had some good trips together! Our last minute Mount Rushmore adventure might have been the best. Waking up from a nap in the car to see your smile and hear the words, "We're almost out of gas, buddy. I don't think we're going to make it" was one of the funniest experiences of my life. You thought you had the whole thing down to a science by driving the car up each hill, and the then shutting the car off and throwing it in neutral to cruise down in order to conserve gas. haha! (It worked).

Our trips to the NCAA's were a blast too! One year, You, me, Josh, and Steve all head down to St. Louis at 2am with the plan of taking turns driving. Steve starts off and we find ourselves sliding off the road and into a ditch 20 minutes into our trip. Somehow we manuever the car out, and I take over the wheel...and end up driving the entire 10 hours throughout the night because all you guys fell asleep! (Thanks a lot).

And that same trip, on the way back, Steve is exhausted and swerving behind the wheel.

Jacob: Steve, why don't you pull over and let one of us drive.

Steve: Yea, that's probably a good idea. I starting seeing trees dancing.

haha!!!

I'll miss you calling me "chummy". (how on earth did you come up with that nickname for me? It doesn't make any sense.)

I'll miss our intimate conversations. You didn't like being sad or serious for too long, but you knew when you needed to talk something out. And when we were done, it was back to good times.

I'm not exactly sure how we lost touch, but we did. I have to assume that it was a mistake on my part, because you never would have purposely caused our relationship to dwindle. You cared about me and my family.

I'll miss you, my friend.

Jacob,

I'm going to miss talking wrestling with you on the computer to help me pass a slow work day. You were a great wrestler and a great person. I remember the first time I met you at the AV camp where you were whooping up on everyone in the camp and your parents were talking about moving to AV. I put your ankle pick up there with such wrestlers as Cael Sanderson and Eric Jurgens.

We spoke about your illness the first time around and it sounded like you had it beat and then I got the bad news last weekend that you were losing the battle as the cancer returned. I got the news of your passing when I was up at the cabin and it brought back the memory of the summer we went up there to fish. We always talked about getting out fishing or ice fishing but unfortunately we never made it happen again. You and your family have been in my prayers and you will be greatly missed. Rest in peace little Brother.

I've personally really enjoyed the stories that people on here have shared about Jacob. If any others can share more, I'm sure if his family reads this, it will mean alot to them.

I didn't know him personally, but from what people on here have written, he was a very good person, and obviously a very talented wrestler.
