Situation... I am controlling a cross wrist from the top... I go for a cross-wrist roll, ducking underneath him while reaching for a ball and chain, while still having the cross wrist, I end up in a tilt situation... I get my five count. My opponent starts to belly down, but takes his time. I release the cross-wrist, but continue to hang on the ball and chain, and switch to a churella...back in a tilt situation. Did I break my hold enough to get another set of back points? My initial ride was a cross wrist, than I went to cross wrist and ball and chain to get my back points, I released the cross wrist, while keeping the ball and chain, and hook the arm (churella) back into tilt position. I love this sequence...if I can get the set of two back points. I was told it should be, but I don't always get that call. |

The key here is that you don't earn multiple back points just because it is a different move. You earn near fall for different "pinning situations". What breaks a pinning situation? When the defensive man has a chance to defend. In your example the ball and chain was never broken thus the defensive man was unable to defend. |

I see. Once in a while you will see a wrestler keep the position but for a second let go and show the referee, and then they award the back points, and then goes right back to that move. I've seen Drew Fleming do it with a cradle before...body behind leg with the cradle with forward pressure gets to back for 5 count...lets back to side with leg still essentially trapped does the wave to the ref, gets it award then goes back to that position. I'm not sure he is giving that wrestler a right to defend. In that situation, I don't think he should be awarded the second back points, in which he was. In the situation that I gave the defending wrestler is not fighting hard enough to get to his belly, that is why the churella is possible. If I were to keep the ball and chain and he bellys down, your saying you wouldn't award the points until I let go of it? I have already broke the hold by letting the cross wrist go, which was my initial ride. What if after my cross wrist roll, he bellies down hard I let go of the ball and chain, but continue to hold the cross wrist into a leg turk? I guess I love the idea of this type of chain wrestling, and to be able recognize a situation and capitalize on it, what you are saying is that he needs to be bellied back down (long enough to defend) before, I can hit another technique to score back points.
