I have noticed that when clasping is called, the ref will hold his hands above his head to signal the call and then wait 5-10 sedconds before stopping the match and awarding the point. Why is there a delay in stopping the match? |

They might delay to see if the down wrestler gets an escape or reversal. |

The offended wrestler is in a scoring situation so the penalty call is delayed until the situation ends or becomes a score. If the offended wrestler scores, then the technical violation is added onto the points earned. If the situation does not result in a score, the referee will stop the match and award the clasping penalty. |
