Is it legal to use this: http://danmarwrestling.com/proddetail.php?prod=Model-1200 to protect a recently broken nose? And are you required to have a doctors note to use a face mask? Please let me know ASAP, I need to purchase something. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME! |

The normal one restricts air flow and sits too low on my sons face, he can't see forward at all, only down, due to the loops on the bottom (probably the same reason people use tape on them which I notice you now say is not allowed). I called the company and they said kids are using them but they have not officially asked NFHS for approval. What is the official rule? Can't seem to find it anywhere. With it getting so close to sections and state I want to get something that will not limit his wrestling at all since he has a good chance to make some waves at state BUT I don't want to get there and have an official say it can't be used. I have a call into our head rules interp Byron Olson. I am going to have him make the final ruling on it. Hopefully have it today. |

I am recently in the market for such a mask (broken nose) and e-mailed the company. I was told that the ref's always have the final decision for any of the matches. To date nobody has reported any problems just positive reviews. Also i asked about the metal pieces and they are plastic tabs on there. They said they do have a option without those pieces and just the straps only. I know i'm going to give it a shot, it looks much better than those bulky mask that i'm sure nobody is a fan of. |

Email From Bob Colgate at the NFHS: This is the first time that I have seen this particular face guard. Just by looking at it to me looks like it would not comply with NFHS Wrestling Rules. I think you would have to see it in hand to see if you think it is dangerous based on the buckles. So until we see it, it is impossible to rule on it. If you buy it make sure you have a backup plan if the head ref at your section or state feels it is unsafe. |
