There is no reason to have this in the venue it has been at. The numbers do not justify it, and with the majority of wrestlers being from the metro it would ease the cost for the greatest number if we kept close to more kids homes. Most modern high schools can pull off this tourney, and a new central location would draw more kids from the north. |

I think there's a misconception or a lack of knowledge by most of just HOW MUCH WORK is done by the folks at the RCTC, that would have to be done by others....who remembers when mn/usa had to call up all the local High schools to coordinate borrowing and hauling mats ? HUGE undertaking, and lots of risk of damage and things going wrong- I would never want to go back to having that problem- the RCTC already has the mats we need there. You'll also need lighted time clocks/scoreboard towers, like the ones the RCTC has in storage just waiting for us to arrive and set up... and then of course you'll need man power- lots of it- they have a crew of guys that do set-up and tear down, so ya'll can head for home when you're done- I'd love to see another venue match it- parking-hotels-restaurants-etc personally I'm very curious and very anxious for this tournament in St Cloud to happen, with huge numbers- i'd like to see if St Cloud can actually host a whopping big tournament, because then we'd have a really good comparison....unfortunately I don't think the numbers are going to be that large- Edited by Tiny Tornado, May 1 2012, 01:23 PM.

Let's just put the entire MN/USA calendar in the metro so everyone else can drive there yet another weekend... ^o) I sympathize with those further north, and admire how much effort it takes for them to make weekend qualifiers and the clubs springing up and strengthening. It gets real old driving up 52 most weekends and then hearing the flack from the metro and others about having state in the southeast portion of the state. Central is a huge club, and I have 0 doubt that they could put on a good tournament in St. Cloud. I also think the Metro area could put on a good tournament in the cities. However, proven time and time again, MN/USA puts out a good product in Rochester. Cadet Duals worked well there, in addition. This is only my silly opinion, but I'm sure MN/USA has pondered all thoughts about moving the tournament or tweaking things... If they continue to put it in Rochester, it's likely backed with reason. |

By far the largest wrestling population is in the metro. Asking the majority to sacrifice for the minority is by no means going to please the most people. It most certainly is not best for the sport to force people from Grand Rapids, Grand Forks, Bemidji, Frazee, Thief River, ect.... to always make the sacrifice. Driving up for a Saturday FS tournement is not the same as asking someone to spend 100's of dollars like most have to pay to take part in this event in Rochester. |

I guess I'd argue that most everybody else spends that same 100's of dollars- we always did- staying in the hotel and eating out with the team is half the fun of going, why would anyone want to drive home and back again ? maybe those in Stewartville, or somewhere really close- but it's true that the people from up north/far west have a lot more in gas money needed just to get there- Edited by Tiny Tornado, May 1 2012, 05:00 PM.

So what exactly about the numbers doesn't justify holding it at RCTC? Driving up for a Saturday FS tourney isn't the same as the north driving down to Rochester for a weekend, no... But driving up Friday nights and Saturdays on multiple weekends tends to get costly too... |

I do know that the city of Rochester goes out of their way to keep tournaments there. It is a huge profit for hotels, resturaunts, and general local economy. RCTC does a great job so that helps too. |

I'd personally love it if the city of Duluth would host the State tournament at their convention center- lots of hotels, restaurants, things to see and do...I love Duluth- let the new Bulldog club at the UMD get it going...that'd be awesome |

Coming from one the northern cities mentioned, if this tournament was in the way north metro (like Forest Lake), or Duluth, or maybe St. Cloud, then it would make a difference, but Rochester vs metro proper does not really matter (to me anyway). I know how to get to the things that matter in Rochester: RCTC, hotels, 5-Guys, and Gander Mt.; don't confuse me now. Also, the people numbers for F/S-Greco state seem about right for the RCTC; however, the facility is way over capacity for folkstyle state (my opinion). |

Maybe the people that want the tournament moved up north should actually have a local qualifier in that area first. No tournaments north of Forest Lake or east of Morhead(third of the state). Where do expect the kids that you hope to gain, to come from? |

First, please stay in school. People in the North are just fine with the tournament happening in Rochester as Northerndad stated. It appears that there are some people from the metro area that want it moved North (to the metro). Don't confuse people from the real North with the metro folks and what they are calling "North". We in the North are going to have a tournament next year and are looking forward to it, we are working out the dates and details via the proper channels. North lol Edited by dadfinger, May 2 2012, 07:47 PM.

I love State being in Rochester- I have no problem with it being there- but I was trying to sympathize with those who have to travel long distances- and I just so happen to love Duluth, too- but tableworker makes a good point- I wouldn't want to be inside all day working the tournament either , I'd want to be down by the lake ! |

Zeus is right on the money, the numbers for freestyle and greco do not justify Rochester hosting the state tournament. Yes, Rochester has a lot to offer and would be hard to duplicate. However, what is best for increased participation and what is best for revenue are a different subjects. Greco and freestyle have taken a real hit in participation over the years, especially in the Northern and Western paerts fo the state. Some of the towns mentioned have a travel distance to Rochester of over 400 miles, that is another day off from work and another night in a motel and some parents just can't afford it. The RCTC is way over-crowded for the state folkstyle and a decision needs to be made as to either find a larger venue or make the qualifications more stringent. The RCTC has put Mn/USA, financially, in a very good position but, it is time to move on and thank Rochester for all they have done and find a location that is more central to the state of Minnesota and help the sport grow even more. I do not agree that most parents from "The North" would not think there is much of a difference between a Metro venue and the Rochester venue. 400 miles vs 300 miles makes a difference, if the dersire is there to find a more central location for the whole of Minnesota wrestling, it can be accomplished. |

I have not taken the time to read everyones points. I did get a tour of the new civic center in down town cloud. Pretty nice but not a turn key venue. Lots of off campus efforts to get the mission done. RCTC, phone call its set up. |
