Cheer on Oftedahl and Deutschlander as they compete in the Greco world duals tomorrow and Sunday in Concord CA. They are on team USA, and are dualing team OR, Mexico, Sweeden, Germany, CA and not sure the 7th team, maybe 2 CA teams...loaded rosters...check out california wrestler forum for rosters and results...unfortunately this is not on track. it is a RR dual format 6 duals, 7 teams, followed by a individual tourney...only 12 funky fila weights...so it should go fast! apparently back in the day UNIT competed in this gig! |

competition rivals fargo without the fluff (bottom 50th % kids) and just has the top level. Mexico lightweights were supurb. Jarred said it was odd wrestling with coaches screaming in swedish, german, spanish etc...they had 7 teams, rr dual format...extra kids went to fill holes...there were ZERO forfeits, every kid wrestled 9 matches....6 dual matches and an 8 man indivdual after...total points between the two determined the winner...the only bizzarre thing was, they were lax with weigh ins. kids missed weight by 5 -plus lbs and they said...close enough! which never happens in any usa or hs tourney...so the international kids were big...their philosophy was good will and great wrestling and thats what they got. Team USA only had one undefeated kid, Hayden Tuma. There were also quite a few 20 year olds on the overseas teams. Jarred ended up 6-3 overall losing to the Mexican 4xnatl champ and 2 1 point decisions to bresser, Jake went 2-7 with several close losses...very good tune-up for fargo...extremely cometitive!!! team USA took 2nd, team Oregon won it. they had all their number 1 kids who are on their duals team...easy drive for them. Harry Lester coached team USA and let 4 clinics.

it is supposed to be on california wrestler...but lame posting...they don't use track, no matter how bad the new format is, it is the best way to find wrestling results overall!!! |

Pretty arrogant statement here!, maybe the "fluff" or the other 50% should just give up wrestling then? |

Why is stating a fact about the competition level Arrogant? FILA cadets and FILA juniors, same deal. VERY high level competition...obviously, national and international competition is tougher than your average HS tourney (not including MN HS state which is extremely tough overall)...and average kids will not enter those tourneys generally, unless they live close by. And saying the bottom 50% should give up wrestling is not the point at all! There are different levels in everything in life and thats whats so great about HS sports...there is a level for everyone V or JV and multiple other levels in same sports. Not everyone in ANY sport excels to these levels. It is not arrogant, just a fact. I ski for fun and never competed, I have no plans to give it up because I can't compete at that high a level! A youth triple crown winner can be just that- A youth winner, and nothing more. A high school state champion can become just that, and nothing more- college wrestling is tougher than it looks and many don't make it. But then a guy who finishes in the bottom 50% at fargo, every year, can become a top 3 Senior National Team member. It doesn't always matter what you do when you're younger- it's how much work you CONTINUE to do, and whether you keep advancing by working, learning, training- I wouldn't worry about a label- labels dont stick to sweat |
