It's complicated, ....if you placed 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in any junior regional you are an automatic qualifier - - and don't count against the TEAM roster. The team roster can have up to 4 at any weight - - up to a certain number"....... I believe it is 54 .... It may be more. I don't know if current All-Americans count against the team roster or not -- I think they do. We can usually get everybody or almost everybody in camp to Fargo -- in Greco anyway..... It's a different story in Freestyle.... Usually takes some wrestle offs.... And
Cadets is completely different than Juniors...... And
There are other things that enter into it also......like guys moving up or down a weight.

And ..... It changes every year.

Not really true, but almost kinda sorta. They are allowed to take a certain amount of wrestlers per state. That amount does not include wrestlers that have qualified at regional tourneys in the top 3 such as Northern Plains, Central Plains etc. We could send more kids if they went to some of the regional qualifiers and placed high enough. The numbers we'll be able to send will be determined once they cound how many kids don't count against us...I know that sounded stupid, lol. Also, lets say that there are only 2 kids for 98lbs , then we could send both of them and perhaps send extra at a different weight...if they work hard and such. On the flip side , if one of the 98 pounders was lazy or being difficult, they have the option of and would not take him. This is just what I think happens at camp, Chris Willert will be able to explain more accurately on the process. If anything I wrote is off, I appologize.

Fargo Tech Team to be well represented at USA Junior and Cadet tournament
By: Aaron Saunders , INFORUM
Published July 13, 2012, 11:11 PM

FARGO - Hundreds of nationally ranked wrestlers from various states around the country will converge today on the Fargodome, but one group of athletes should feel right at home.

The Fargo Tech Team Wrestling Club will supply the hometown presence at the USA Junior and Cadet wrestling tournament.

"Several of our guys are wrestling at nationals this year," said team co-founder Ryan Kringlie. "We have guys like Tommy Walton and Weston Dobler looking to win or place at nationals."

Tech Team Wrestling Club was founded about a decade ago when Kringlie and Steve Walton decided to join forces after their sons had gone head to head in local wrestling matches.

Ten years later, the former upstart team has between 80 and 90 wrestlers in the club and has become a feeder system for local high school wrestling teams.

"This year we had five guys who were state champs and seven who were state finalists," Kringlie said.

One clear beneficiary of the club's success is West Fargo High School, who won the North Dakota Class A team and dual state championships.

West Fargo has an abundance of guys like Class A, 113-pound state champion Jordan Shearer, who came through the Tech Team Wrestling system.

"I believe they have definitely been part of my success," Shearer said of the wrestling club.

Shearer, a sophomore, got into the sport because of his dad, Dean, who also wrestled in high school.

"What we like most about the sport is it's a one-on-one sport that teaches kids hard work and makes them use their muscles and their minds to succeed," Dean Shearer said.

Last year, Jordan Shearer was a Cadet All-American and finished sixth in the Greco-Roman Nationals.

This year he will be competing in the Freestyle category.

"I want to win," Jordan Shearer said. "It would mean a whole lot to me. It would be a great stepping stone."

Diminutive Cook secures women's 95-pound title at USA Junior and Cadet Wrestling Tournament
By: Aaron Saunders , INFORUM
Published July 14, 2012, 10:57 PM

FARGO - Brittnee Cook may be small in stature. But she came up with a big victory Saturday night.

With a pin at the USA Junior and Cadet Wrestling Tournament, the diminutive teen defeated Rebecca Forsyth of Beaverdam, Va., in emphatic fashion to become the women’s cadet freestyle national champion at 95 pounds.

"This was exciting and kind of like a dream come true," Cook said. "Wrestling is a lot of hard work and dedication. You have to have the goal set in your mind that tells you that you can do this no matter what. Don't give up."

While she has been wrestling for eight years, this is Cook's first year competing in freestyle.

"I'm working on getting a scholarship for wrestling, and my coaches wanted me to try out freestyle to see how I liked it." said Cook, who took fourth place in the Washington state girls championships this past year as a freshman at Kiona-Benton High School. "I think I have improved a lot since I started learning a different style of wrestling."

It is fairly easy to underestimate Cook, because she falls short of five feet tall and weighs less than 100 pounds. But that would be a mistake because the newly crowned champion sure packs a wallop.

The 15-year-old from Benton City, Wash., was in control of the match from the start.

"I have wrestled boys my whole wrestling career, so it makes it easier to wrestles girls because I am used to the boys, who are stronger," she said.

Many schools in America do not have female wrestling teams, which forces some girls to compete against boys. However, female participation has brought a breath of fresh air to a sport that's always fighting for national attention.

"I think they still favor boys wrestling, of course, but I believe women's wrestling is bringing back men's wrestling," she said.

Cook herself has aspirations of wrestling in college and in the Olympics someday. Her victory Saturday night cast a huge light on herself for both.

There are only 22 colleges that have a varsity women’s wrestling program, which can make it difficult to land a spot, even for someone as accomplished as Cook.

"At first I wanted to go to Michigan State, but now I want to go to Oklahoma City." she said.

While Michigan State does not have a women's wrestling team, Oklahoma City University does. It was the 2011 Women’s College Wrestling Association national champions.

"I haven't talked to any coaches," Cook said. "It's just a long-term goal of mine."
