Of course it's everyone's perogative to compete in whatever style they or sport they prefer. But I think it's fair for people to be curious when a national champ from the previous year doesn't compete, even when he is already at the event. Then Unit made the comment that he was specializing for future success (that he since deleted). I don't think anyone is out of line to ask whats up? Everyone knows it's a huge grind on these kids to do all these matches over the summer, so I don't think anyone is questioning that fact.

its expensive too...maybe given the choice of 2-10 (no guarantees at fargo for more than 2 matches) vs 18 matches for sure...no one gets eliminated in a RR team format at AAU JR olympics, (or JR Duals) that may have been the better bang for the buck...and most kids prefer team tourneys over individual, way less pressure (can't be eliminated) and always a large cheering section. At Fargo, huge amounts of pressure and its just you against the world! Competing in both styles is a grind at fargo, emotionally and physically.

I guess I think Fargo is a pretty good bang for the buck. I think my son had to pay $550 for 5 days of camp with high level coaches and competition, room and food provided. Then he was provided travel to and from Fargo and a hotel for 6 days. As far as competition, I believe kids could have anywhere from 2 - 12 matches per style against the best kids in the nation. I know my son got to wrestle great competition at the camp and I am sure most of the others got great matches at camp competing against the best kids in the state. The cost if approximately $50/day.

What is the cost for AAU JR Olympics?

I agree with you. $550.00 is a good deal and my son has competed in both styles at fargo for 4 straight years and will be there again next year! However, it is a ton of $ if you only get 4 matches...so it is a risk. AAU duals is $400.00 which included a week of camp, and a week in Houston, all expenses except some food, and appx 18-20 matches...whether you win or lose. And team tourneys are more fun than individual ones...again JMO. But the best competition overall is at fargo, no question about that! MOST of the kids at AAU did both Fargo and AAU. But it is something to consider if cost is a factor. Junior duals is a blast as well! And your son absolutely kicked butt and got the MAXIMUM possible matches at fargo, so it was a super good deal when you place 2nd and first, something like 20 or more matches? compared to the kid who gets 4, huge difference.

Hate to ruin the speculation about why Sam didn't wrestle freestyle but he told his mom he wanted to go to the fair this year. It"s been 3 yrs since he has gotten to go. Yes he is a 16 yr old boy who works hard year round and has 2 more years of Fargo left.

Every kid knows their own personal balance for work and fun, seems like Sam knows his situation best as he has done very well so far in his career. I believe just about any decision he chooses or chose will the right one (unless he went out for swimming lol). Good luck Sam!
