Tommy Thorn and Seth Gross are headed to Azerbaijan this weekend to represent the US at the FILA Cadet World Championships in Freestyle. They weigh-in Monday and wrestle Tuesday. If my math is correct, wrestling will start Tuesday morning at 4:00 am.

Sorry I forgot to mention Mitchell. I tend to focus on Class AAA to a fault sometimes.

Well after a week of good practices. They are on their way to Azerbaijan.

Seth seems to enjoy all his teammates, I think they have good group of guys. He has had some great partners in Zain Retherford, Earl Hall and Destin.

Mitch McKee wrestles tomorrow morning, Wednesday. He got a tough draw, but he's a tough kid. First round is Satoshi Fujikawa of Japan.

Mitch lost to his Japanese opponent, 1-1, 0-1. Fujikawa then lost to a Russian in the semis, so Mitch was eliminated.

Zain Retherford from Pennsylvania is wrestling for gold at 139 pounds.

The boys are at the airport about to begin their journey back to Minnesota.

All of the videos are posted at

http://www.dartfish.tv/CollectionInfo.aspx?CR=p85865c47596

I think it was a great experience for them and a great honor. I know Seth knows he has some things to work on. He also did not understand some of the scoring in the 2nd period that they had him losing 10 - 4. After reviewing the video, I have to agree with him.

He was trailing 3 - 1 when he hit a spladle on the kid from Turkey. I see the ref signalling points for Seth but the person talking at the scoring table give the points to the kid from Turkey, the scoreboard shows 7 - 1. Zadick throws the brick they throw up 3 points for Seth but the other wrestler keeps the 4 points they gave him. They start the wrestling at 7 - 4 or Turkey (I would have it 5 - 4 USA). Then the ref gives the kid from Turkey 2 points, Seth exposes the kid for 2 points the back judge indicates, but the scoring table gives the kid from Turkey 3 points and stops the match at 10 - 4. The one thing that would have been nice if they actually huddled and made sure the scoring was right when the brick was thrown. They seemed rushed to get the match going again.

Well there was my rant. Time to move on. 2012 - 2013 season is just around the corner.

Congrats to all the USA kids for representing our country well!!! Zain looked awesome winning gold for USA!!!

I watched the video. I couldn't believe how the ref scored it. In the second period I would have scored each of the 3 exchanges differently and the second exchange appeared to be total robbery. Seth was close to pinning him. The match appeared close and the guy gets a tech fall over Seth! Could be I just don't know freestyle well enough... :'(

Maybe the lesson here is when wrestling internationally don't expect to get the points called your way when you are rolling around and control isn't absolutely clear. Focus on moves that make the call clear-if you can.

How do you find the video on that site? Do you have the file name? They don't seem to be labelled, at least that I can find.
