This happened in a varsity dual. Wrestler A sinks in a very deep headlock (a legal headlock) on wrestler B. Wrestler B starts to panic and starts to yell a little bit, I think about not being able to breathe. Wrestler B's coach goes onto the mat and taps the referee. Ref stops the match, awards A a 4 point nearfall, lets wrestler compose himself, and restarts the match. Was this the right call? I think that when the coach goes on the mat and taps the ref, the match is then done.

It has never happened in my 23 years and there isn't really a rule to penalize the kid for the coaches actions. The coach could have had a team point deduction for approaching the mat while the clock was running. There is a rule that states the coach can stop a match at any time so the ref could have taken the action by the coach as an indication he wanted the match to end

Rod, How about when a parent goes on the mat before it is officially over(arm raised in victory). When my now soph in college son was in 8th grade, he was the hwt, we were down 45-43 going into hwt in the finals for 1st place, he gets the pin to win 49-45, an OVERLY excited dad runs out on the mat from halfway up the bleachers and bearhugs his son. I then look at the ref and he has his red armbanded arm up in the air with one finger in the air, final 48-45. Was I penalized for going onto the mat circle before the match was officially over? After that incident, I joked with our jr high coach that I will bring a rope to tie me in the bleachers when my younger son wrestled at the Coon Rapids Middle School Duals event.

Wrong call a team can not be penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct by fans. Although a big win like that in the last match isn't unsportsmanlike anyways. I am sure it was exciting for you.

BTW it is rule 7.5 article 6

Is it legal for a kid that is not cleared medically to wrestle, to accept a forfeit. If the kid cannot take the forfeit what are the ramifications of this action??? Is this the officials responsibility or just a coaching ethics question???
