Is there any truth to MN/USA not sending a team to the cadet duals this year? |

they went to florida the last 2 years, who wouldn't they go this year? It would be a shame, those kids works so hard and the most fun part of the season is the duals. |

Opportunities are being taken away from our wrestlers, you are right, favorite time of year for these wrestlers to be a part of the team portion to represent Minnesota. If $$$$$$$ is the reason, then assemble the team and ask them if they would be willing to fund more of the costs... that simple The cadet group that could be assembled this year is the same one that won the Gold in both styles for Schoolboy Duals 2 years ago!! |

I'm guessing it's because they concentrate on Fargo and means getting your best guys to Northern Plains, which USAwrestling has scheduled on the same weekend. |

Oops, was not aware it had been in Florida the last two years, thought it was somewhere Middle of the country- Is it possible the people in charge (cadet director, asst director, other coaches) are unavailable to make the trip ? Edited by Tiny Tornado, Jan 20 2013, 08:09 PM.

I hope for MN wrestling this is not true. I think the dual teams have been a great opportunity for my son. I am not sure he would have had the success he has had the past couple years without this opportunity. I know it takes a lot of organization and Daytona is not an ideal location, but the competition is only matched by Fargo and most of the kids will get plenty of matches. If you look at Illinois, they take duals very seriously and get their top kids to go typically. I think that helps them have success for Fargo. If money is the issue, maybe they can raise prices for admissions to the state tournament for age groups with national teams. I know California has been having folkstyle qualifier tournaments to raise money to send their top kids to the other side of the country to compete in some of the top folkstyle tournaments. |

I agree with you Mr Gross, Cadet Duals was definately the turning point in my wrestlers story-it made a huge difference in his attitude,, added to his confidence, his love of freestyle greco, his exposure to the other top kids in the State, his relationships with the coaches, and his level of ambition. I would not want to see this opportunity to be missed by our Cadets, but i personally do not know the reason for them choosing not to make the trip this time-unless it is actually just a rumor ? I agree Illinois makes the duals their top priority, as Mn seems to make Fargo our # 1 priority- cou,d this have anything to do with the issue of so many kids that want to do only one style ? It seems it used to be accepted that if you were on a Duals team, that you naturally were going to wrestle both freestyle and greco, but it seems ive heard or read comments here for the past several years that some kids only want to wrestle freestyle, so it becomes a bigger problem for the coaches to sort out who to choose, or how many ? MN should be sending a team or 2 to all three duals events. There is no reason not to take a group to Cadet duals no matter where it is. This breaks the chain of kids coming up who would love to be a part of this...my son was on two national championship teams as well, the 94-95 birth years won Schoolboy duals, then cadet duals...to take the opportunity away from the next good crop that can win it all is just awful!...this will also have another negative effect as the best of the best 9-10th grade cadets will now want to go to junior duals and thus there will be too many top quality kids at some weights and others who would have gone, will now be off the teams, with a 48 member 2 team jr duals roster limit. I suggest they ask the kids if they want to shell out the $$ or host a fundraiser tourney to go. If they do this I will volunteer to work it even though my son is 3 years beyond cadet age....No top level cadet should be denied this opportunity.

This years 2nd year cadets would be some of the same team members that won the Schoolboy duals in Greco and Freestyle 2 years ago - shame to not give them another shot at winning. |

I have no dog in this Cadet fight anymore, but you have to realize that these days, a lot of people can't just open the cupboard and grab money to "shell out" for some of these costly events. Dont take me wrong, I too would love to see our great Mn. Cadets go to this event. |

The turn out in FLA has been poor. It is my understanding that many state organizations made it clear they would not return if they put the event back there again. My guess is enough teams have withdrawn that it may not be worth going to. |

Last year, word was that Cadet Duals were going to be hosted in Rochester, MN this year. I was pumped, because it would be affordable. Now that it is back in Florida, it won't fit into our budget. My Cadet will be going to Northern Plains instead. |
