For Juniors----
does anyone know if Freestyle is Saturday and Greco is Sunday?
also for Kids, usually Greco is Friday and finish up with Freestyle by Saturday night.....
according to calendar it will be Sat-Sun this year so what style will be first?

Just trying to plan hotels or make changes

You could register at 106 and wrestle 170...what you weight when you step on the scale is all that matters.

Just to be clear, I know the registration deadline passed, but I know of some guys who would still like to wrestle. Are they SOL, or is there some sort of walk-in registration?

You can pay at the door, but it will cost you $40.00 bucks.

Yes, you can register at the door but the entry fee doubles per style, $40 per style instead of $20.

I'm sorry, but that system of brackets or pools or whatever you call it sucks.

Is there any good reason for doing tournaments that way? And I'm being serious.

I'm looking at the results now and lets face it, kids flat out get SCREWED. And yeah I know the top 2-3 guys are going to place no matter what, but a lot of kids would be happy to get 4th, 5th, or 6th place and don't get a chance. It's funny how some kids wrestle the 2 top kids right away, but then the 2 top kids don't wrestle each other. I mean don't you usually wrestle the kids listed next to you in the pool? I'm looking at a bracket where the kid listed above 2 place winners wrestled both of them, and the kid listed below the 2 place winners wrestled both of them, but the 2 place winners never wrestled each other. Those kids both went 0-2 and went home and I know both of them and they would have handled some of the other kids that placed.

And yes there is at least one vendor selling gear. Not sure about singlets.

1 Ton, you're not new to this sport, I don't think anyone can figure out how the brackets will pan out at a USA Wrestling Event. Forest Gump would say "Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what your gonna get". Tomorrow is a new day.

The brackets they use look different, but the final result is no different than the type of brackets they use at the high school state tournament. If you get a good draw you can place second when you're not the second best wrestler and if you get a bad draw you can go 0-2 even if you're the third best wrestler in the state.

I'm not directing this at you, 1 TON, but I always find it interesting that many people are so willing to defend the high school style brackets because they've been in use for so long, but will immediately complain about the international brackets even though they have the same basic flaw.

Wish we were there, but he is training HARD off the mat :) . But over the past ten years, I have learned that it is the luck of the draw at mn/usa events :(

Back when my son was competing, I told him the random draw was another wrestling life lesson. In whatever he was to do in his life, he wasn't going to be seeded in it. Take what life gives you today and make the best of it you can.

Seems like I'm not the only one who thinks the draw is more of a determining factor with pool style brackets. There is far more opportunity to prove yourself against other opponents with wrestle backs.

Look at your own example Sharkey, you're wrong, it would be impossible for the third best wrestler to go 0-2 in a high school bracket. Who would beat him in the first wrestle back? We are talking concept here, it's impossible.

As I said in my post, I was talking about the state high school tournament. The third best wrestler can, and every year or two does, lose to the best wrestler and the second best. Or he can just lose to the second best and be one and done.

As Emmett Grogan said the luck of the draw is just a part of it. The only way to avoid it is seeding.

Dan Marquette had him self a good freestyle outing as well as many other FreeCo Freaks.
I see freestyle and summer wrestling helping this hasting grappler.

My heart tells me to preach the benefits of summer fun fighting and look forward to the training that awaits our MN Storm family.

It is a luck of the draw number for USA Wrestling. There aren't seeding meetings like there are for high school invitationals where the coaches meet and determine how the kids should be placed on the bracket sheet. If the wrestler is determined and wants to go to a USA event they better be prepared to wrestle whoever is there regardless of what side of the bracket they are on. It is hard to see the two "top" kids have to wrestle the first round but you would just have to win sooner than later if that is the case.
