So what do kids like Mark Hall aspire for now? Someone who essentially spent their life training to be Olympic Champion. What's after college now? MMA? Dropping the oldest sport, but keeping Badminton? Just ridiculous! Edited by TechTeam, Feb 12 2013, 08:11 AM.

I know paper work will be drafted to reinstate wrestling back into the games guessing after it is officially dropped. Far as I know the World cup is still intact. USA wrestling could adopt a U.S. International Games on the Olympic year. No Matter what it takes the luster out of the dream to make the Olympics. I hope with all the different International wrestling people with influence can put pressures on the IOC's mother ship. |

As much as I hate this news maybe it is a blessing in disguise. Unit may have hit the nail on the head. Why can't the wrestling community hold it's own Olympic style events? Maybe every 2 years versus 4? It's no secret that the IOC is a corrupt organization. Let's get our true, realest sport out of their mess and promote our sport ourselves. Let's get out from under the dictatorship of the IOC. Think about how many commercials have you seen for wrestling when the olympics was on? Go into the store did Coke have wrestling on their cans? No it was other sports. Let's not look a gift horse in the mouth let's take take our sport to a whole other level surpassing the constraints of the Olympics. Thoughts? |

Wrestling can be its own mother ship. International wrestling Games. Try not to have it in Turkey every year. :) As of now the FILA world cup is still operating. Mirror most of these rules and maybe add a weight? Just a thought. Prime opportunity for USAWrestling to step up to the table with Russia and other countries of interest to form a common interest for Games concept. |

I agree with pretty much everything you said - especially from a wrestler's or wrestling fan's view. But the big blow in losing Olympic competition is visibility with the casual fan and the public in general. In time, this lack of visibility is almost bound to lead to decreased participation, funding, etc. I applaud your thoughts on making lemonade out of lemons, but I'm afraid I can't quite be as optimistic. |

Taking Wrestling out of the Olympics is like taking the beans out of the coffee! If there is someone out there who has a link, e-mail or street address to tally the support for maintaining a truely competitive sport in the Olympics, please post them. |

A good friend has just convinced me that this is not a death blow for Olympic wrestling, but rather the latest in a long, long line of IOC blackmail efforts. They'll look for a number of countries or sponsors to pad their ever-greasy palms enough, and this will all have been just a bad dream. I was almost suicidal - now just sick to my stomach. |

Jayl, Call me an optimist. A friend of mine just posted this on FB about my idea. "Not that it's the best model but look at Beach Volleyball or better yet Snow Boarding. For the former look up Orange Beach, Alabama. What Alabama? You say. These are two sports that over the last 10-15 years have created multi-million to billion dollar global industries of their own design. There are current business leaders, politicians and sports figures (NFL, baseball and basketball, et.al. ) that have been collegiate wrestlers and would likely among that list including actors be willing in some regard to endorse an effort of this nature. Just saying, think you may have something here" |

If the international wrestling community is forced to form their own International League, because wrestling is not allowed back in- then we can give the women competitors as well as all the men their original amount of weight classes back again-when the IOC agreed to add womens wrestling, it came with the stipulation that the mens weights would be reduced-so if we end up having to go on our own, we can fix that-

Here is a little e-mail I sent out to member of the IOC: Hello my name is Josh Woodrich, I am currently e-mailing you about the status of wrestling after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic games. It has been brought to my attention that wrestling will be removed from the Olympic Games after that particular year. As a former wrestler wrestling has taught me many life lessons that I continue to implore in my life today. By taking away wrestling from the Olympic games you are taking away one of, if not the oldest sports known to man. Wrestling was included in the ancient Olympic Games held in Greece thousands of years ago and has been included in every Modern Olympic games since their arrival in 1896. The Olympics are literally the highest level that a wrestler can achieve and taking it away from them is like taking away the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL from the athletes in those respective sports which is simply wrong to do to any athlete that has worked as hard as they have to achieve that level of success in their sport. Let them reach the pinnacle of the sport they love and train all their life for. By taking away Olympic wrestling you are taking away the hopes and dreams of every competitive freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestler throughout the world. To quote "The History of Wrestling", "In ancient Greece, wrestling occupied a prominent place in legend and literature; wrestling competition, brutal in many aspects, was the number one sport of the Olympic Games." So please as a former wrestler, current fan, and lifetime follower of the sport of wrestling, I think I speak for everyone like me when I say you simply cannot take away the single goal that every wrestler hopes to someday obtain which is the pursuit of an Olympic Gold medal. This is the highest honor that can be bestowed to an athlete in this wonderful sport which deserves its place in the Olympic Games right where it belongs. I hope you make the right decision to reinstate wrestling in the Olympics after Rio 2016. The wrestling community and family is a powerful one, which will do whatever it takes to see the sport that so many have given their hearts to prosper and remain in its rightful place at the Olympic Games. Thank you very much for your time, Joshua Woodrich Owatonna, MN, United States of America |

Maybe we can get it reinstated with a better set of rules and idiotic ball grabs for tie break situations. Also the corruption at these games is terrible and there needs to be checks and balances for refs who will be banned for inconsistent and biased calls. Either way 2 remove the oldest sport in the world and Olympic games shows truly how ignorant the IOC is. Badmitten, Equestrian, Steeple Chase? I mean really? |

No offense, but the Olympics in general is a big f--kin joke. The organizers and backers behind the Olympics are nothing but hypocrites. They need to be exposed for what they really are. The games were desinged to bring nations together on a common platform, putting all things aside out of the spirit of competition. Now, it's nothing more than money. If you ask me, athletes are exploited in these event more than anything. If they are going to get rid of the world's first sport, screw the Olympics!!! They don't deserve wrestling. |

Will this decision have any long term affects for Freestyle and Greco here in the USA? Will clubs drop them to focus on folkstyle if the "Olympic" styles are not reinstated at some point? It would be unfortunate if that were to happen.

I'm sorry to tell all you Greco guys this, but Greco is boring as hell to watch. They need to wrestle folk style. But I understand that Folk isn't as popular around the world...... |
