Dear Club Leaders and Coaches, Please note that Clubs are encouraged to provide at least one registered/working Official and at least one Pairing Official for the tournaments that they attend throughout the Greco/Freestyle season. Reminder to Coaches: - Coaches Pass(es) are required - please see Important Information for Coaching at Minnesota/USA Wrestling Kids/Cadets State Tournaments. - If you are planning to coach an athlete matside at the MN/USA State Freestyle/Greco tournament, you will need to ensure the Club the athlete is wrestling for has at least one registered Mat Official, one Pairing Official, and Tableworkers, working the tournament. Also be prepared to identify the Official(s) before receiving your Coach(es) Pass(es). Officials clinics can be scheduled by contacting Tom Kuisle via tkuisle@gmx.com or 507-236-1066. Thanks for your involvement with Minnesota/USA Wrestling! |

Isn't that what coaches passes, athlete fees, and USA cards pay for? |

I don't understand the question- :-/ Are you somehow implying that the money sent in for all of those things, somehow pays for people to show up and referee, or do pairing ? Mn/Usa is run on volunteers- so without people stepping up to volunteer, there would be no weekend tournaments - EDIT: I just spent my day working at the Maple Grove tournament, and I was given a delicious sloppy joe, a choc chip cookie, and an ice cold diet pepsi- thanks MG wrestling-that's all the "pay" thats needed- Edited by Tiny Tornado, Mar 24 2013, 06:33 PM.

A follow-up on Tiny's Maple Grove tournament comment. I believe this was their first time doing this? It was very well done! My criteria: large parking lot (yes), large restroom (yes), large gym (yes), large commons area (yes), relaxed atmosphere, where kids who are school rivals can hang out and learn from each other (yes), good officials who take the time to answer questions about the sometimes mystical world of FS-GR scoring (yes), and (this is big in my opinion) pre-arranged table workers, so they did not have to pester the crowd for help (although I know some did anyway). It did run a bit long, but I believe this was becasue there where not alot of registered officials there. As Tiny says, they are volunteers, so treat them well and encourage them to come to events. |

I agree-they held a very well run event, in my opinion-there were a few table-worker errors, but they were small, easily fixed mistakes, and those same kind of things happen at most tournaments-what i appreciated most was that everybody associated with hosting this kept a smile on their face and had a very pleasant attitude the entire day, and it seemed to spread to the wrestlers and families as well Edited by Tiny Tornado, Mar 25 2013, 09:30 AM.

Maybe I am misunderstanding the MN/USA guidelines. It appears that in order to coach a kid at matside you need to also bring 4 table workers to the tournament. I know there are plenty of volunteers in the organization but they do generate revenue and it seems like pretty steep requirements to coach your kid. |

I have only seen this required at the state tournament (and maybe Forest Lake?), but the last 2-3 years I have only been to MG, Stewartville, Moorehead, FL, and Eastview, so not sure about the others. It has never been an issue to coach matside in my experience. For our small club, the state tournament is the only one where we would ever have enough parents to provide four table workers. |

Dewey, i still dont completely understand-what, or who generates revenue ? The wrestlers ? Maybe youre under the impression that mn/usa should PAY people to do pairing, and reffing-thats not going to happen-it shouldnt need to happen, IMO- and as far as the tabelworker requirement, LJG is correct, this is only required at the State tournament-smaller clubs have been allowed their coaches passes, when they took the time to contact the people at mn/usa and pool together with other small clubs- |

I've always thought that MN-USA should reimburse officials for their annual fees. Not only do pairing and mat officials have to volunteer their time, but they have to pay for that privilege. I know that when I've brought this up before, I've always been told to hit up a local club for the cost. As far as the revenue question is concerned, I don't think Dewey's question is unreasonable. The annual fees for wrestlers and for entry fees for events goes somewhere. I know back when I was on the MN-USA board, most of the revenue went for insurance but that was years ago. |

Iowan, Yes, there is now a reimbursement form that pairing and mat officials can send in at the end of the year, and receive Reimbursement for some mileage, so many cents per miles driven, stuff like that...... No, Dewey was not being unreasonable, i just wanted to be sure i understood what he meant- I will just state my personal opinion -mn/usa really, really needs some more people to join the ranks of the officials we have- " some of us " (ahem ^o) ) are getting old and slow, and we need reinforcements Edited by Tiny Tornado, Mar 26 2013, 04:17 PM.
