It seems the number of wrestlers signed up for this weekend is kind of low. Especially in Cadets. Is this normal or is participation in this dropping off? It would be nice if they could have kept registration open past Sunday night to get more signed up.

I think the numbers are fairly close to last year. On your thought of keeping the registration open I would disagree, in fact I hate when they extend the registration. What's the point of having a registration cut off date then? Follow the rules, don't make exceptions for those who can't for the sake of more $$$. What are we teaching people here?

Building numbers is the most important thing for free Greco. Registration should not close down Sunday night. Greco does not start until Saturday this year. Should have made the cut off Monday night.

I think the numbers where a bit higher when state was the first weekend in may, shortened the season a bit, and it is tougher to get them in the room when the weather finally turns, could be wrong - general observation

LOL! Why wouldn't you just have a sign up at the door for a small tournament like this to get more numbers? Maybe some parents have to work and have to wait to maybe get the day off... or any number of other reasons? Its not like its overflowing with wrestlers on any given year. I could see if FR/GR was busting at the seams like Folk State does... What are we teaching people? C'MON MAN! Its a wrestling tournament for kids.

Its a State Tournament - State tournaments dont do Signup at the door-kids had to qualify to get here-
Then to hold costs down, lessen time off work for everybody, i.e., no Friday, we use pre-registration,
so we dont have to weigh in the night before and take so long to make brackets.

Weighins will only weed out a few who move up from where they registered, and we should be ready to rock n roll :)

My point is if there is a entry deadline then sign up by the deadline. Start being responsible and accountable in the time frame stated. Don't cry about it after the fact if you missed the registration deadline. I have no sympathy for anyone who can't register on time and I personally don't like when the cut offs change after the fact. Sign up for state opens well in advance of the cut off. Is it really that hard to sign up on time?

Just to be clear, I was not complaining that I could not get my kid signed up in time. I registered him over a week ago! My observation was that the numbers seemed a little lean for this tournament. To help promote wrestling and make a better experience for all those currently registered but with a small bracket, I suggested that they could have extended the registration longer. Really, what is great about going down for a weekend and getting just one or two matches each day. That is what is going to happen for some kids.

So how do you come to the conclusion that I was crying, complaining, being irresponsible, and totally underserving of your your sympathy for something I never brought up in the first place!?

Easy2, I never called you out above. My response was in general to those who complain about the cut off. I don't see the big deal. MN USA sets a cut off you get signed up before the cut off. I equate it to a cop pulling you over for going 40 mph in a 35 mph zone and you argue the ticket. You knew the limit, went over it and now complain? I am just very black and white on such matters.

MNUSA could keep the registration up longer and I am fine with that but when the cut off comes and goes that's it. If the goal is to get more FS/GR then something has to give and that would be the length of the Folkstyle season.

Numbers for FS/GR are always going to be lean because kids are doing other things at this time of year. My kid is on the lighter end of his division and often during FS/GR it is hard for him to get matches. Smaller brackets should be a best of 3 for sure if you have only 2 kids in a bracket. It would also be better if brackets were combined to a 8 man bracket when applicable at qualifiers. At Eastview there were many cases for having combined brackets.

I don't know about overall numbers, but the GR bracket in cadets my some is registered for has about twice the number his brackets have over the last 3 years. I saw that as a sign of greater involvement, not less.

Drock,
Many people just like yourself often band together, and make up a group in order to volunteer-
I truly feel for you, and I appreciate the effort you put into helping these kids compete-maybe
its time to suggest to one or more of their parents that they need to step up and help you out ?
If these kids are old enough, it also would be a great lesson for them, about giving back to their sport,
and they could help you work at a table......
