Tschida lost 4-3 in the finals I believe he was up 3-0, then he pinned Mckee in the true second match.

Benick vs Nash should be a GREAT match!

I'm not usually a whiner about things and I don't know the rules well enough to know if Lance deserved that call or not. But, deciding to use new rules on a Wednesday and then disqualifying someone in a national final two days later on a technical issue just seems a little harsh. Hopefully it was a learning experience. I feel sorry for anyone Lance wrestles today.

EDIT: Benick and Nash are on opposite sides again for freestyle. :)

from what I understand about the new rules, cautions will be called for negative wrestling;
i.e. not aggressively engaging -

Kaz Onoo from Mason City, Iowa just lost a match 27-22. He was up 21-19 with 35 seconds left. I think I like the new rules.

I think the refs need to be more engaged in understanding the new rules and the flow of the match. They were just implemented 3 days ago so there is NO WAY they understand the rules better then the rest. You better be damn sure of a call if you're going to pull that card out. Someone scored 14 points and it wasn't the declared winner. If you're down by 6 and all you got going for you is trying to push a kid out hoping for a call then you are clearly outmatched. The refs were duped.

The passivity is going to need adjustment. The refs were literally badgering the wrestlers during the match. They are told to force action, but they are clearly going to far. Scoring 14 point and being DQ'ed was extreme but that was the tone of the matches. Guys were engaging and wrestling hard. They got what they wanted, and didn't need to get as involved as they did. They did not have a good standard other than to basically just pick one to ride, or hammer on the wrestler leading to keep the other guy in the match. The new rules were great and the day really went well with the new rules but the refs in my opinion got a bit to involved.

A quick update on the Cadet side. Hall got another first period tech this morning and is in the final against Bo Nickal. Mark Voss also won and is going for third. Luke Rowh lost to Pico and is going for fifth. Voss and Rowh were in huge brackets with tough kids.

From Yesterday, Lance Benick, Brent Jones and Bobby Steveson are already in the finals, so our finalists are Jones, Hall, Steveson and Benick. Pretty impressive for little 'ol Minnesota.

And, yes, Benick's final is a rematch with Roy Nash of Utah who beat Lance is a controversial Greco final Friday.
