How about Oklahoma state with Moran, Lewallan, Gfeller, Heil, Martinez, and Blaylock all at 141/149 and all being potential top-20 guys this year? I sure hope there are some transfers out of that group or there are going to be some potential AAs that never even see the mat at a conference tournament.

You have to add Brock to that group as he will be moving up in weight this year or next. There's talk of Piccininni/Fix at 25/33 and Brock moving up this year.

I wouldn't think Heil would move his sr yr up to 149. He has a much better chance being a 3x champ at 141. The 2018-19 season Brock might be at 141.

...and there isn't too much room to move up with Joe Smith, Jordan Rogers, and Jacobe Smith, up above them.

My point is with every boom there is a bust and the bust is coming soon to Penn State they will lose at least 3 blue chip recruits I guarantee.
Maybe they'll sit on the bench so that they can take a crack at some of that NLWC money being passed around. $50-100K a year is a nice training stipend to look forward to. (Was Gwiz really offered $100K to train part-time?)

Your correct I think Heil stays 41 and Brock jumps up to 49 to wrestle off Martinez and company. Fix is going out of the gate and will redshirt year of Olympics just like Gable is doing. I'm assuming Spencer Lee of Iowa goes out of the gate this year for same reasons above

But who wants to do that... besides wrestlers from Penn State (the NCAA's eligibility magician)

Meanwhile the rest of the pack falls further behind.

Lots of work to catch those programs
Also stuff will start to equal itself out pretty soon.. the wealth WILL spread, it's inevitable. For instance..

Penn State
149/157 Berge, Verk, N. Lee, J. Lee
They say N. Lee is 141 but I'll believe it when I see it and even if he can make it this year I doubt he can for 4 yrs. That means 4 blue chip wrestlers bidding for 2 spots and Nolf has 2 years left. Doubt these guys will want to ride the pine. And if Cortez can't make 133 and can't beat Nick Lee then I'm sure he'll transfer out for his senior year.

Then you got Joseph and Manville fighting for the 165 spot and I guarantee the loser isn't gunna be content with being a back up.

My point is with every boom there is a bust and the bust is coming soon to Penn State they will lose at least 3 blue chip recruits I guarantee. And with teams like Ohio State and Oklahoma State being so loaded, I think you'll start to see the mid top tier teams like MN, Neb, Mich, Cornell get some of those guys.. it will be interesting to see how everything plays out.

I don't think Cortez can transfer again unless he graduates.[/quote]

Lee needs to bulk up and is coming off a major injury. I'd be surprised if he didn't redshirt.

All of the guys you listed at 149/157 can redshirt this year and then 1 steps right in as a RS Freshman after Zain leaves. Another steps into 157 as a RS Sophomore when Nolf is gone.

Also, by that time Cenzo could easily being going to 174 and Hall to 184 with Nickal gone, leaving room for Manville or one of the previously mentioned recruits at 149/157 to take the spot at 165.

It also stands to reason that of those 4 recruits you mentioned at least one of them is bound to not pan out as an above average Division 1 wrestler. This isn't a statement about any of the kids individually, but just playing the odds. Whether it be injuries, maturity, etc, it's probably unlikely that they all pan out, so it won't really even the playing field any for another team to acquire them.

McKenna to Ohio state. Flo says he'll likely move up to 149.
Shame we won't be able to see Tommy stick him again.

Not that this has anything to do with recruits or who gets crowned National Champion for that matter, but I think tOSU has a shot of beating PSU even with Suriano at PSU.

125-Tomasello dec. Suriano, 3-0 OSU
133-Pletcher dec. Keener, 6-0 OSU
141-Hayes dec. Cortez, 9-0 OSU
149-Retherford TF McKenna, 9-5 OSU
157-Nolf MD M. Jordan, 9-9
165-Joseph dec. Campbell, 12-9 PSU
174-Hall dec. Jordan, 15-9 PSU
184-Mymar dec. Nickal, 15-12 OSU
197-Moore dec. McCutcheon, 15-15
HWT-Synder MD Nevils, 19-15 OSU

Lot of close matchups, only true tossups I believe are 141, 174, and 184.

Is there a RTC coming to MN anytime soon? I remember hearing a rumor that there was, can anyone confirm? if so when? And who do you think they should bring in as a coach? This would be great for recruiting kids to the Gophers, needs to happen.

There already is one.

Minnesota Training Center/Gopher Wrestling Club/MN Storm

They were working on hiring a full time RTC coach.

A new Gopher Wrestling room will be built, perhaps that is the confusion.

I'd never heard of Garrett so I found a video of him with two matches in it. One is against Jared Florell from Totino Grace who is a fine young wrestler going to Purdue next year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzIR4t_vqQA
