At this point I would have to say Cashman's stock is heading negative. He has been AWOL for a while. Some have said injury, others well that's just rumors. Plus the fact that he is skipping his senior season to train at the OTC as he announced cannot be impressing the recruiters much, but then again that is just my opinion. What's the upside to forgoing your senior season?
He did tear his knee up which kept him sidelined.

OTC for a senior season can have advantages based on where you go to high school IMO. A lot of these top level kids will wrestle a handful of truly competitive kids throughout the season. OTC can provide a boost in training partners and coaching depending on your situation. It did seem to work out ok for Kyle Snyder at least.

That being said, we have McKee so I wish Cashman well wherever he lands.
Cashman is not Snyder. If there's a lack of quality matches for Cashman in Minnesota someone should get McKee and Steveson out to the OTC.

And I wouldn't fault them either if that was the decision they made. Gable contemplated some different options.

Just for fun, what are your thoughts....

He was picking Minnesota but is 2nd guessing it for Nebraska?

Or

He was picking Nebraska and is 2nd guessing it for Minnesota?
Since the cornpickers had been favored to land Lee, I think the delay is a good sign for Minny. Now, we may be dead even.

C'mon Brayton, join with us at Gopher Wrestling to help build something great!!!

What benefit do you think Gable getrs wrestling a MSHSL schedule this year?

My point exactly. If Cashman is too good for MSHSL then it's totally beneath Steveson or McKee.

I don't think either Gable or Patrick are lacking for competition. Between their brothers, the Gopher Wrestling Club, Pinnacle, the AV and StMA rooms, their world tournament travels...I think they are progressing nicely.

I disagree, Gable has zero competition in MN HS wrestling. Wrestlers at every other weight looking for completion can move up in weight to challenge their ability. Gable will waste a year of progression if he wrestles at the HS level this year.

While I certainly think Cashman and McKee are outstanding wrestlers, their situation is not even remotely close to Gables.

I would agree that Gable is well beyond being challenged in a high school room. I really hope that legends of gold turns into something so that people like him have a place to go to get top flight training in-season. I'm also psyched that highschoolers can register for college opens now. I would love to see Gable and McKee make it to the a few opens this year to get some real challenge.

I never said Cashman was above MSHL competition. Just said I understand if a top level kid chooses the OTC route. It is not out the realm of possibility to think Kevin Jackson can probably coach up Cashman a lil more than Jim Jackson. Chances are he would be just fine had he chose to stay in MN also.

It is each kid's future, whatever path they take is ultimately their own.

Well, when you're 1 in the world for your weight and age, progression is going to naturally come in smaller increments and be harder to see. He didn't get challenged last high school season at all and it didn't seem to hurt him nationally/internationally this summer. Seeking out practice time with older guys around the twin cities, and an occasional trip to the OTC, while enjoying his Senior year is a good way to go.

Cashman is really good, but probably should stay in HS. He wasn't as dominant as many others last year and could benefit from the continued competition in folkstyle if he wants to have success in college.

some of you guys are real knuckleheads. None of us have all the info needed to understand why these guys are making the decisions they are making. Lets just support them and trust that they actually are thinking through what is best for their desired destination. Most of us on here will never understand why they are doing what they are doing because we have never been good enough to have these options to even ponder. Some will choose their path correctly and some will make a mistake but all will decide based on thinking it through and having a plan.

Best wishes to ALL of our MN wrestlers!

Storm, have you not been paying attention for a few years??

Yes, our program has still been good, maybe even quite good. But, not great.

We have been down, but we are working our way back to the very top! In order to do that we need more elite recruits like Brayton Lee.

I would add Penn State not landing all of the top 10 recruits every year.

I agree with this opinion. Cashman is going to miss out on his senior year. Shakopee wrestles a pretty good schedule, another high school state title would look very good on his resume.

So do I. yes, we all do!

But, take responsibility for your words, instead of pretending that you were being humorous...and then trying to blame me for lacking a sense of humor.

I have read this site for a long time, along with many other wrestling sites, but I mostly post on Rivals.com/Inside Gopher Nation...where I do most of the Wrestling threads. I decided to post more on this forum lately, especially when I know some new information that I've not yet seen.

Storm, I look forward to reading more of your posts, including the ones that are humorous. So, let's drop this little discussion, and go back to talking about recruiting.

Has anyone heard any more about Brayton Lee's thinking and when he might announce his decision??

Take responsibility for my words? I said "Make Gopher Wrestling Great Again?" This statement does not imply that Gopher Wrestling currently is or is not great but was meant to be a play on the president's campaign slogan which I was reminded of based on your comment. This is silly and I normally wouldn't comment back but when told that I am not taking responsibility for something as important as my word I feel obligated to comment.

Let's let him be a senior in HS and enjoy his last HS season. He watches all of his brothers home matches from behind the Gopher bench and I am sure he works out with some older wrestlers from time to time. Lets hope he goes into his freshman year at MN with enthusiasm and not burned out. If you read the article in the Star-Tribune Sunday about how kids are routed from one sport to another and or are doing one sport almost 24 hours/day/365 days/year until they are burned out.
I tell the story about a mother who stopped a 14U BB game in July with her son on 2nd base with the winning run, went on the field and took her son to HOCKEY PRACTICE. She admonished the coach for asking why she would do such a thing. Just let boys be boys for a change.

Storm,
Oh, I finally get what you were trying to say once you mentioned the Trump reference. I am very politically aware, but I just didn't think of what I said as being similar to Trump's slogan. Sorry, for all of the back and forth!

I mostly don't believe in talking politics on non-political blogs, but if I had any notion that something I said sounded like DT, I definitely would have changed the wording!!
