I bet Smith will make him suck down to 197. I wonder if he really has outgrown 197...I understand if he doesn't want to cut for his last two years in HS.....
Yes he has outgrown.

I wish him and the family well!

What do you want to bet he never wrestles 197? 210 now and if he redshirted we are talking about what his weight would be THREE YEARS FROM NOW. He's been steadily growing throughout his career:

120
152
170
195

And now has two season left. Some kids stop growing at 16 but it is clear to Kerkvliet and his family he is not one of them and will be a college heavyweight.

Man losing Kerk stinks! Him and Gable back to back was going to be Epic!

I assume all options were looked for being a Gopher. He wanted to be a Gopher. They just couldn't make it work with redhsirting and the Olympic year. He would have had to sit 1 year at minimum and he's way to good to do that.

Next year's lineup?
125 McKee
133 Lizak
141 McKee
149 Thorn
157 Bleise
165 Allar
174 Thomas
184 Webster
197 Steveson
285 Steveson
I think this would be a significant jump for Thorn and Bleise, but this is appealing.

Kerkvliet just committed to Ok State. Son of a....
Hey at least it wasn't Penn State or Iowa.
I think it was wise not to choose a Big Ten school. Limits the number of times he'll face off with Gable. I'm guessing that was a factor in his decision.
This is why I wish he had chosen Iowa. The potential rivalry between these two would have been amazing.

Is Alex Lloyd a 141 instead of 149? Today he went 0 and 2 and both guys he lost to did not win another match. Lloyd is a great high school wrestler but the length difference at 149 could be a problem.

Would Kerk be a candidate to qualify for an Olympic Redshirt in 2020? He's a Cadet World Champ, and hopefully he has some success as a Jr....

If Kerk got an Oly. Redshirt in 19/20 during Gable's True Soph. year, then did a regular redshirt in 20/21 during Gable's True Jr. year. If Gable took a redshirt in 21/22 then Kerk would be a "3rd year/RSFr." that year and could start. They'd then overlap in 22/23 during Gable's RsSr. year (Dustin S. did a RS between the same year) and Kerk's Soph. year. Then he'd have Jr. and Sr. years without Gable.

We could have a Hwt. NC for 7 straight years then :)

It's better then redshirting in 19/20, then getting beat by Gable for two years, then winning 2 titles.....

I'm guessing Kerkvliet would rather not sit a year and take a shot(s) at Gable.

My question is will he try to go 213 (or whatever the new weight is). He is over 5 years younger than Snyder which means he could overtake him at some point.

Of course college has to be the only level with only one weight above 200.

I prefer he just transfer back to the U after Gable graduates. Continue where Gable left off at heavyweight. Be training partners and represent team USA at 97kg and 125kg. Win Olympic medals.

Just checked OK State's roster....

They have a Redshirt Jr. who was a Juco champ and a Redshirt Fr. (Ethan Anderson) who was a 2x IA state champ at Hwt. plus a 2014 Cadet World Team in Greco and a bronze medalist at the 2015 Pan Am games (Cadet).

Don't know who is the favorite to be the starter....if Anderson wins the spot, he might be a Multi-AA when Kerk is off redshirt in 20/21 when Anderson would be a Sr.

Kerk might be sitting a year anyway....but I will put money that Smith has him dieting like crazy and cutting to 197. They have two Redshirt Jrs. at 197, both would be gone when Kerk steps on campus fall 2019--and they have some guys that are JUCO champs on their roster....who knows what else they will have in their room.

If I was Kerk, I would keep their roster in mind along with a plan with the U for 197/Hwt...and re-think it in a year.

Wouldn't mind seeing Keegan Moore come back from Ok. St. next year if Marsden keeps him out of the lineup all this year (Marsden is a RSo.)---it could lead to Moore sitting for 3 years. Don't know how he'd do against Webster, but would like the depth.

Any news on Benick?

I wish Kerk the best! The way he wrestles in space for a big guy is unbelievable. Why can't MN have two DI programs so we can keep all these guys around! That might help outmigration of talent to the Dakotas as well.

Sounds like there’s a chance Keegan gets kicked off OSU. John Smith is pissed off at him. He had character issues in high school so I’m not surprised.

Flo reading between the lines about Moore.

Another potential example of keeping your cool when an in state guy goes elsewhere.

Travis Wittlake decommits from Penn State and chooses Oklahoma State instead.

Early signing period tomorrow. Curious if we see any other changes of heart. Perhaps we hear from Brayton Lee.

It would be really nice to get Brayton Lee...we could use a 157lbs starter in two years that can stay there for 4 years. (Early beat a ranked kid this past weekend).

grappler6 or anyone that follows these kids on twitter know where they are going?:

Aaron Brooks-182 out of Maryland---Intermat has updated the recruiting rankings...I think he replaced Wittlake at Worlds. #24 overall???

Ryan Karoly--182 at PA...

Brock Hardy--152 UT---I thought someone said he was committed somewhere?

Montalovo--182--CA---Are we recruiting him? (another teammate at 145 is ranked Brett Villarreal is uncommitted)

T. Lawson--182--OH----What is with all the uncommitted 182lbers?

Alex Felix--138--CA---maybe another 141lber in the room to help with the 141-149 wgts......his 195 teammate Tony Andrade is also available...

I think we could use more 174-197lbers...

Thomas is the presumed best guy along with Allar for 165/74....but Webster and Bobby are both Sophmores....getting some more talent in there can help them get better and eventually replace them when they graduate.

Surprised Karoly, Montalvo and Hardy didn't have their commits on there "recruiting rankings"....

Brooks would be a great get in a year. Webster and Bobby would be Jrs....he could redshirt and then either overtake Webster or Webster could drop to 174?
