Fix is clearly very impressive. Been following him since he was a 7th grader and was dominating age group events. Having seen him wrestle a few times though I think he will peak early in the grand scheme of things. Sort of like a rich man's Rossi Bruno. Which isn't bad at all. I just don't think he has top end upside.
He beat some good kids that are a few years older than him, by dominating fashion. A lot of people expect Micic to be a threat to AA next year. Anything can happen, but I am a Fix believer.
I believe he will be a multi-AA but I don't think he will end up having the college results his current success would seem to predict. Maybe that doesn't make any sense, but that's just me.

I also believe Lee teched him last time they met, which tell you something about that kid, that kid being Lee I mean.

Thorn did ok
Agreed, but after a year of college is he still a recruit? Too bad there isn't another Thorn.
There's a Jackson Thorn in the youth wrestling program from STMA...not sure if related...

There are 3 Thorns to produce. I am sure there will be a hand full of young Thorns in the next 10-15 years.

John grew up an Iowa State fans and went to Iowa State, then we allow John's kids to go to Minnesota, so it is only fitting that this generation comes back to Iowa State (We will just take the boys that wrestle). John would be okay with that, I already asked him

I honestly don't think that the Iowa State coaching staff is in tune with high school wrestling in Minnesota.

Don't worry. All in fun. John is a high school friend and we went to wrestling tournaments as little kids and were on the same high school team together in Algona. I wish the best for all of John's kids and follow their results.

There are 2 people on their roster from MN. Are there a lot of MN wrestlers on other D1 program's rosters that are not UMN, NDSU or SDSU?

I think they are plenty in tune with MN high school wrestling. Problem is generally speaking, college recruiting is very regional and mostly instate.

(I would venture to guess that scholarship money is the driving factor in that)

The majority of ISU wrestling fans do not believe that they are "plenty in tune" and college recruiting is not "mostly instate" but your grammar was good.

P.S. I believe there is just 1 wrestler who went to high school in MN at ISU right now.

After the last dual that ISU wrestled in MN and because of the "show" that their coach put on the comments that were made upon leaving the arena "who in their right mind would want to wrestle at ISU?" I concurred.

I guess I disagree with wrestling recruiting not being generally instate. I would bet that MN has one of the more diverse rosters in D1. The gophers have 20 of 42 guys on last years roster were MN guys.

PSU - 22/37 guys from PA
OSU - 27/39 from Ohio
Iowa State - 21/40 from Iowa
Iowa 14/30 from Iowa
OKST - 16/41 from OK
Mizz - 17/30 from Missouri

Like I said, mostly instate or regional I think is pretty accurate (maybe not, what do I know). I pulled some of the perennial powers but I would be willing to bet that more of the non powerhouse schools would be more regional (I could be wrong). The schools above have the ability to pull recruits across the country because they can offer a shot at a title which will draw people who arent getting scholly money. Otherwise, for very many people the idea that they will have to pay out of state tuition without scholly money can be a deal breaker.

It's really amazing then that anyone becomes a Hawkeye.

As for my comments regarding "instate recruiting", the point that I've been trying to make is that Iowa is a fairly small pool for 3 D1 programs to pull from. I know KJ's recruiting list goes from coast to coast.

KJ was pretty upbeat at Northern Plains. I guess you have to be, when in public, but I couldn't help but wonder, "How is this guy so positive about where his program is?"

I'm a glass-could-always-be-fuller type though, too.

I don't know how the rankings are going to work out next year, but I think we'd probably beat them in a dual meet.

Other than Lizak, Thorn, Pfarr and Kroells who do you see winning for the Gophers?

Over Weatherman and Weatherspoon?
Pfaar may be an underdog in his match as well.
ISU will have Weatherman/Weatherspoon/Downey at 165/174/184. Not world beaters but as of right now probably the favorites at each of those weights against the Gophers.
