Anderly is fun to watch, explosive and not afraid of anyone. He would be a great fit somewhere after JC

Was looking at JC rankings, anyone notice, at least 3 of the top ranked guys have ties to MN (HS or college).

141-Austin Anderly (class of '15--don't know if he wrestled anywhere else before that as theguillotine had him going to UWLX in 15/16 but no results on their page).
165-Dayton Racer-Clackamas
174-Dylan Reel--Clackamas (what year is he now? I didn't see him in the 2016 or 2017 results)

Anyone know where these guys are going next year?
I'm not at all interested in having Dayton Racer in the room with his reputation. Dylan Reel was a Gopher and probably left for a reason.
I wouldn't want Racer either...he is a talented headcase...let him go to VA Tech which I think he had planned to

Tried asking Willy on Twitter what happened to OSU?

I met him once and he claimed he was going to MSU-Mankato. Who knows :X

Since college he has committed to VaTech, went to Iowa Central, committed to Ohio State, went to clackamas.

Not to mention all the miles he logged in high school. I agree stay away.

You know it’s saying something when one of the few things Iowa and MN fans agree upon is in regards to his bad reputation

With Lee coming in 149/157 (157/165 according to AWN), Thomas 165, and Allar 165/174 just a freshmen, I see no reason for considering Racer.

Jeske is having a good year at Augsburg at 165, and he was also originally a UM commit.

Sure, if you can get depth for no money, but not if it's going to cost you a lot to double up at a weight where we have other top recruits about the same age.

We did just have 4 backups(one third string Brancale) go 4-0 against a big ten team.

We could use some more depth but I wouldn’t call it insane.

Calling MSU a "big ten team" might be correct in the fact they are in the big ten...but there are probably 40 teams outside the big ten that would crush them. (Win by 10+ points)....That is not a good disclaimer for them. They are putrid at this point.

We are talking about our backups matches.

125 is a likely NCAA qualifier and 149 is already a 2x national qualifier. I wouldn’t call those kids of MSU putrid. Those are nice wins by our backups.

I don't think anyone disagrees with that. The point being made is we had some backups beat some decent wrestlers.

I think our backups are alright. We could make a team from our backups that could probably compete for a DII title and beat a dozen or so DI teams.

125. Petry
133. Polakowski
141. Volk
149. Marko
157. Champagne
165. Brolsma
174. Krone
184. Anderson

I agree. The backups are fine. We need a few more big guns in the starting lineup to be a contender. Next years incoming class is a great step in that direction.

Wow, really? I see at the very least 9 qualifiers ( there is always a few big upsets in a regional tourney) with every one of the qualifiers scoring some points at nationals. At the very least 2 in the finals. with most, if not all, of them placing. Sounds like a national title to me. And this is from some one who has been to over 10 DII national tourneys.

I was thinking more about head to head dual tourney. It would be fun to see though. I do agree they would beat 1/2 of all D1 teams as the bottom drops out big time after the top 20 or so.

We were talking in our section about how much better conditioned and willing to scrap this MSU team was compared to the past teams. Knowing the MSU HC is still from the previous regime, it is still a notable improvement.

They do have limitations in terms of talent, but they seem to be making strides

Overlooked in this eternal recruiting thread is what kind of wrestler does Minny want? Is it just the highest ranked recruit or does style matter?

For example, would you rather have an Austin DeSanto type guy or a higher ranked Brandon Sorensen type wrestler? You already know my preference.

I’m not sure Gable Steveson and Pat McKee are explosive enough...

You’re going to get both types in your recruiting class. Iowa for instance got Lee. Do you think he’s boring like Sorensen? You need to be able to accept both types of wrestlers unfortunately; and if you can’t accept both, then you better get used to losing.
