I would like to see that Fibrantz as well for 285 depth, but probably hard to convince someone to come in behind Gable.
I think our current starter could provide depth behind Gable for 2 more years?
If you only want one other heavyweight in the room yes. Ideally I would like another for depth and partners.
Agree 2 is better. But to carry 3 hwt isn’t what most teams do.
Gophers I would say more often then not have 3 heavyweights. It all depends on what ur roster allotment is.

Never seen him wrestle but Dominic Vacura jumps out at me in the rankings. Placed at 195 as an 8th grader is pretty impressive. Ranked highly at 220 this year. The timing would be perfect for him to step in after gable.

I’m not a frequent college poster but I am very excited for 2018 class! If we can add depth and get a couple blue chippers in 2019 we will be back to where we used to be.

Are we thinking that Champagne is the starter at 157 and Allar is starting at 165 next season? Just out of curiosity.

I think he will be in the picture at 157, along with several others, including probably Bleise.

Cadet World champ Aaron Brooks from Maryland, who is doing a year of OTC after high school, just committed to Penn State after OTC. Have no idea what they’re going to do with all of these guys.

2018-2019:

165: Joseph Jr.
174: Hall Jr.
184: Nickal Sr.
Brooks OTC

2019-2020:

165: Joseph Sr.
174: Hall Sr.
184: Brooks Fr. (or redshirt)

Unless I am leaving someone out, Brooks should slot in perfectly.

I am not sure what the situation is with Manville. Is it possible that he just goes the Greco route?

They also have Joe Lee (Nick's kid brother) to redshirt next year... probably at 165. Manville will be a RFr. Next year. That is my point about Kerk...he can sit one year at MN just as well as a lot of studs that go to Pedophile State University....

If we redshirt Mitchell and Webster, any chance some of the incoming guys start right away? I'm quite confident Gable will go but what about throwing Patrick McKee and Brayton out there and saving their redshirts until later? I actually like having a redshirt in the pocket to use in case of injury or lineup balance. We've seen it work for quite a few other guys on other teams over the years. Just curious as to what you guys think.

We have 3 seniors for 125 and 133...why not let P.McKee develop more before taking over....it will help him. Let those 3 fight over the spots...hop they both AA

Both McKee and Gable will represent the Gophers as part of team USA at the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic aka Dapper Dan. Prestigious event and what an honor for these young men.

There is a lot of projection here, but looking around the state of MN after Flo's most recent high school rankings.. If Joey Thompson of Maple Grove (ranked 7th nationally at 106) can pack on some weight in his next two years he could be a nice addition to the room as a 125 pounder.

Obviously Ryan Sokol will be VERY highly sought after as a 133, 141 or heavier by the time he graduates. Out right now due to a back injury, hopefully comes back strong next season.

Charlie Pickell doesn't get a lot of national attention (not sure if he wrestles a lot in the offseason?) But he is very scrappy and a ton of fun to watch. Could also turn into a nice lighter weights guy in the next two years.

Obviously Pat Kennedy is a strong Hawkeye lean, which is sad, but he's still got two more years of wrestling in the state of Minnesota. A lot can change in two years.

Pickell was a cadet freestyle AA last year and wrestled on the junior duals team as well. I believe last summer was the first year he was old enough to wrestle at fargo.

Previously he was always on the schoolboy dual teams I remember.

Awesome. I bet he will be nationally prominent guy by the time he is a senior.

Not much movement lately when it comes to high school rankings. Gopher class still has two number ones (Lee at 52 and Gable at heavy), and two guys ranked third (Mckee at 26, Thomas at 60). McIntosh is 11th at 145 as well.

These are Flo rankings by the way.
And #18 Joles at 195. Intermat has him at #6.
Garret Joles younger brother Trett is someone to keep an eye on...a 9th grader at 182 currently 40-1.
