P. McKee is very talented, but could use a year to redshirt....next year is going to be a waste of a year. They have a Senior or two---that can compete next year at 125 while he does redshirt. Pat got TF'd by Lizak this year, unless he goes to the SS or Midlands and dominates, then pull his redshirt. If Petry or Polakowski places at one of those (depends on what the team does next Xmas break)....then let them wrestle and save one of Pat's years for when we have a better chance to compete.
Pretty sure PM wrestles next year.
Id be surprised if he pulls his redshirt. Hes good, dont get me wrong but hes not the recruit Mitch was and he is at a weight where there are other options that have proven to be sufficient.

The Gophs arent making a run next year. Pulling his redshirt would be a mistake IMO>
Make a run for 40pts? Going to be a tough few years for the gophers.
I think two years from now, when this class is done redshirting (McKee, Brayton, Thomas, Jolles etc.) we will see some results. Back to top 10 again hopefully. It’s okay to be patient.

If Gable is our starting heavyweight next year, we should crack the top 10.

Hope he shirts. Mitch could have used a redshirt for sure. His performance hasn't been bad but I think he would have benefited from a redshirt.

If a wrestler starts the season as a redshirt and they pull it, like Iowa did with Spencer Lee, that wrestler loses that redshirt for future use, right?

No. They could use a redshirt on him in the future. I am of the mentality you wrestle the best guy because you never know about injuries and medical redshirts are never a given.

Well if that’s the case, start the season with Pat McKee as a redshirt, and if he dominates the open tournaments and looks like a starter, pull it.

Ideally there are a few more 125/133 recruits coming in in the next 1-3 years that can allow us to (maybe) redshirt him again down the road. Similar to how many want us to redshirt Mitch this season. Seems like a no-brainer.

Everybody starts the year as a redshirt, which remains so until the compete as an official representative of the team. At that time the redshirt is said to be lifted or pulled.

McKee will have the opportunity to face Polakowski and Petry at the Dak Open to start the year. That should provide a lot of info when the time comes.

Medical redshirts are absolutely given, but it's not a for sure thing. You just never know until after your eligibility is used up, so it's not something to bank on.

If a redshirt is ever pulled, I would hope it's after a good tournament like Cliff Keen to better see where they're at.

The cliff keen is an invite so you won’t see you guys in a red shirt competing. I understand your point and yes it is likely that McKee will enter Midlands and we will get a gauge at where he stacks up against the nation. I am pointing out that we can see how he is in comparison to our alternatives at the DAK.

Do the Gophers ever recruit out west? Because Theorius Robison (133/141 from Colorado) and Jaden Abas (141/149 from California) are two of my favorite recruits that will be seniors next year.

Both are ranked highly and have done well in national competition. They could headline our 2019 class along with some in-state guys.

Sign me up for both lol.

Is it just me or is next seasons recruiting class weak compared to recent seasons?

Anyway, I've been scanning thru recruits and match results etc. Ryan Anderson is in the top 10, lost to Manville 7-2 and another touted recruit 3-2 in OT. Also, Carter Starocci is a beast.

Ohio State and Penn State are just loaded with all the top recruits. It leaves a little opening to maybe steal a East kid or 2 next season.

In my opinion Kerkvliet is #1 prospect next season. Kurt Mchenry is a little 113, let me know when he gains 20 pounds and he lost this year anyhow and I'd take DK over Schultz. Gable and Kerkvliet back to back...
