When a coach is fired and or leaves a program they usually let the current players and recruits decide if they want to stay.

You can't punish the athletes when coaches can leave on a dime and nothing happens.
Actually when a coach leaves, they do not typically release all the incoming recruits from the NLI. Doing so would punish the other 30+ members of the team along the fans. Recruits need to understand that they are committing to a team, not a coach.

cough...Virginia....COUGH....Tech......COUGH cough... METCALF......

excuse meeeeeee
As well as Borschel, Slaton and LeClere....(don't know if I spelled their names right, I think those 4 guys wrestled like 07-09?)
But those guys weren't given their release - and had to sit for a year. The ones (like Metcalf) that had already burned their redshirt at VT missed out on a year of competition.

They were also kids that were enrolled in school already. Transferring and getting out of a NLI are not the same. There is also talk that Brown may follow bono to Wisconsin, even if they play hardball with brown, he still has a redshirt year he can use.

The question I always wonder about is why would you not release someone who doesn't want to be there? I don't see the upside.

Right. They’re going to be unhappy anyways. Don’t make their transition more difficult than it has to be.

What would you say if your top 2 recruits wanted to go to say Iowa?

Let’s just give them all first place medals and a cookie too.

Is Lee can't make 149 Alex Lloyd would fit nicely there, HOWEVER his dad doesnt seem to fond of us Gopher fans lol and has already stated he is staying at SDSU
No I love the Gophers and always thought Alex would be one. This change at SDSU is tough, hopefully they get someone good in there and it works out. We will support whatever Alex decides. By the way Alex and I had gopher season tickets since 7th grade.

I can see not releasing to a conference rival, but the Big Ten rule takes care of that anyway.

I mean, if you think about the kids that are making one of the biggest decisions in their young lives so far, in deciding where to get an education.

I think that where they decide to go after the guy who recruited them leaves should not be made more difficult than it has to be.

As a fan, I don’t want to see them go to Iowa. But that doesn’t matter enough to make the kids miserable. They should be able to go where they want if they haven’t enrolled yet.

So he must have his release to talk to other colleges?

Would be a nice consolation prize for them at 157 after losing out on the Brayton Lee sweepstakes.
If they get Robb it's not a consolation, I'd be a huge improvement. IMO
Lee and Robb are both studs. Neither are a consolation prize. What weight is the little Russian gunna wrestle in college?
Alex said a few days ago he will be 141 in college.

Alex is really fun to watch, love the tenacity and would love to see him wrestle for the Gophers.

Also curious if the Gophers were after guys like Trey Rodgers, Striggow, Robb?

OMG OMG OMG that means we have room for both Lloyd and Robb in the lineup with our other studs!!! Please lets make this happen. We could have a super recruiting class, maybe best ever.

Whats idiotic about my statement? I never said that they don't like the Gophers, I said he doesn't seem fond of us Gopher fans as a lot of times he seems almost annoyed with Gopher fans on this board which is no biggie, I get annoyed with you schmucks too lol and he did state that Alex is committed to SDSU so that's why I threw that in there as well. So what again was "idiotic" about my statement?

157- Robb
165- Allar
174- Thomas

Coach Eggum confirmed in this week's Coach's Corner that they are looking at potentially moving Lizak, McKee, Thorn, and Bleise up a weight next year.......not absolutely certain.....he did say "potentially up one weight class".

I'm already envisioning the team walking the trophy around US Bank Stadium in two years!

Eggum also talked about not always redshirting kids out of HS based on the extensive training they are receiving now than when he was wrestling. They need to get them in the room first and see where they are at. Kids that are already starting like Lizak & Mckee that haven't redshirted, I don't see it happening unless an injury or something occurs. I'm also thinking we might see more than just Gable in this class not redshirt as well.

If Robb didn't want to be Gopher the first time around I don't see why people assume he wants to be now. If he decides against SDSU, I'd bet good money on him ending up in Lincoln.

He wanted to be a Jackrabbit coached by Bono and Reader. Circumstances obviously changed.

Was kind of a hectic period for MN wrestling prior to Robb committing early. SDSU landed a solid prospect. Perhaps a second shot at him for MN.

Is there even a Spot for Robb in lineup with Berger, White and Labriola or whatever his name is. Yes I realize he wouldn’t be 174 in first place but Nebraska seems stacked at those weights (157-184)

The question I always wonder about is why would you not release someone who doesn't want to be there? I don't see the upside.
Colleges wrestling programs target specific athletes to fill specific gaps in their line-up. Once they get an NLI, they set that money aside and usually pass on the other choices for that opening. Those guys end up signing elsewhere and are gone from the recruiting pool.

How many 285 pounders do you think the Gophers are actively recruiting out of next year's high school graduating class?

Ferrari had a win over Kennedy at Fargo last year, so this will be a big test.
