Iowa board seems pretty confident that Glazier is about to commit to Hawkeyes.

I had him penciled in as our future at 184. Very under the radar guy that will be great in college. Better not be going to Hawks or this years recruiting class may get worse than 2016's....

Would be really nice to see the Gophs pick up a couple 2019 recruits here soon. Getting anxious.

Was hoping we could pull him in as I think he has big upside.

I wouldn’t rule out Assad for IA as I could see Iowa pitching
165-Kennedy
174-Glazier
184-Assad

I’m apparently in the minority here but I find it hard to believe PKennedy will make 165 in college.

I really hate losing top recruits. Gophers need to shut the borders down.

Do you suppose that it hurts Minnesota at all being a metropolitan campus when so many of our best wrestlers come from small towns and cities surrounded by corn fields (Kasson, Jackson, Jordan, Albert Lea, Owatonna, etc...)? It seems to me that those are largely the wrestlers that we are loosing to other schools. That's not to say that we don't get a lot of them, our roster is full of kids from greater Minnesota, but it looks like when there's a highly-contested kid from farm county, it's harder to hang on to him. I could be wrong here, I'm just remembering how intimidated I use to be by Minneapolis and wondering if it isn't a common feeling among recruits.

I think this scenario has more to do with Kennedy and Glazier being Iowa Fans.

The metro area will deter some kids, but it will attract others. Hopefully those afraid of it quickly realize the U is a small community within a big community.

Kennedy has said 165 is an option.

“Since I was little I've always dreamed of being a Hawkeye and wrestling in Carver. “ -Glazier

Just cause you are from MN, doesn’t mean that is where your allegiances are unfortunately.

Its possible. I think it is probably more tied to the fact that Iowa is a wrestling destination (blah). And Penn state is really good right now. (barf) I can only think of a few kids we have lost to other programs in the last 5 years, Parriott and Florell to Purdue, Striggow to Michigan, Eishens to Stanford. I guess Gross to SD via Iowa. Kerk wanted to be here but for whatever reason can't. How many of those kids was Minny hard after?

Iowa- Berge, Stoll, Gross, Kennedy, Glazier, Cashmen
Penn St - Hall, Berge (only 2 but its a big 2)

How many of these kids were they?

edit - Add Robb and Lloyd to that list

I was actually just thinking about this last night after my son was down there for Camp. It would sure be fun to go to school at, but I could see how it could be intimidating or not as inviting to an out-stater. I really hope we see some recruits start to roll in. I know last year there was a lot of doubt when Lloyd and Robb committed to SDSU, but the Gophers countered with Ryan Thomas and Brayton Lee which I'd consider an upgrade. It would still have been nice to have those guys though, PSU seems to have no issues getting multiple recruits at the same weights. Iron Sharpens Iron as they say.

Personally I think it has a lot to do with the coaching staffs. I’m just not to sure Eggum and company get kids fired up about coming to Minnesota. I could be wrong, just my opinion.

You don't have to be very old to remember a time when Minnesota was a wrestling destination. We used to win national titles, set attendance records and get number one recruiting classes. I think that you might be right that Iowa is seen as a place with a strong wrestle culture while Minnesota might not be as much, it's really sad to think that this transition only happened in the last couple of years with the coaching changes, the Xanax scandal, and the rise of the RTC as a recruiting tool.
