For recruiting purposes, Fargo and all these big tournaments are just a gauge to see where the recuits stand amongst their peers. All these kids have 5 years to improve and get better at folk style. Yes the "blue chips" are great to get but a guy like Webster should be able to compete in folk style with any blue chip recruit over the next 5 years. Heck there are a few kids that didn't place in Fargo that will be near the top of the NCAA podium from 2018-2022. |

People are making this something it is not. No one is saying the Shakopee guys are superior to Berge or that they would rather have them. Simply pointing out that the 3 shakopee wrestlers are rather underrated for their talent level and accolades. Nothing more nothing less. |

For recruiting purposes, one needs to factor not only whether the wrestler's skill level matches the school, but also whether the wrestler's academic prowess (grades and ACT/SAT) are a match for that school. Not all high end wrestlers are able to get into competitive schools. That's a reality. Just like not all high achieving students (who want to wrestle post high school) are talented enough to wrestle for a competitive program. |

Well, if Berge announces that he wants to be known as the face of Pennsylvania wrestling then we have a chance. |

If Berge would go to PSU, he might have to sit. Retherford would be a Sr. when he's redshirting--no idea who is behind him--Nolf at 157 would be a Sr. when Berge is a redshirt freshman--so he wouldn't get 4 years competing at that weight.. 165--Joseph as a RFr. this year..Manville could be at 157 or 165, he might not be as good as Berge, but he'll have a head start. 174-Nickal this year, then Hall for 4 years--Berge can't beat Hall. Probably too small for anything bigger. Berge would have 4 years as a starter and could lead the Gophers back to prominence. PSU, he might get 1-3 years max as a starter....at most. |

Referee is right on with that. Most programs are going to be competing furiously for the 4.0, high ACT kids, especially if they are a good enough students to receive some academic scholarship $. At a minimum, the better programs want good students who will not be at risk for having academic eligibility issues. |

That's awesome, but that doesn't make anything I said false. Parriott should have a fine career. Perhaps even be a catalyst of bringing Purdue back to life. Seems like a good kid. Edited by grappler6, Jul 29 2016, 01:27 AM.

I think there is a lot of speculation going on here with recruits and the upcoming season, or even future recruits. The U is going to have to work hard at reeling back in the hometown recruits because right now it sounds like we have only heard half of the destruction that is happening at the U. This is going to be some dark days ahead for the U. |

I don't know if I'd call them "dark days" but the Gophers are definitely in a hole. I can't see how any recruit could commit to the Gophers right now (including Brady Berge) when the head coaching position is in question and the assistants have 1 year contracts. I will feel crushed if Brady ends up going somewhere else other than the University of Minnesota, but it's hard to imagine him committing to the Gophers when the Gophers can't "commit" a coaching staff to him. I know how the recruiting process works. The athlete sits down with the head coach and talks about a plan that covers the following 5 years. Coyle can't even talk about the next 5 months... Does this paint Coyle as being an indecisive leader? Of course, I imagine the lawyers have him on a short leash while they negotiate J's resignation package. |

I don't know about Coyle, but I know the Maturi did. After the football team lost to South Dakota under Brewster, I emailed him and complained. He responded back. So there is a chance Coyle is reading emails about this. |
