Good article on Mark Hall as Minnesota wrestler of the year. Wants to make his college choice by December 1 next year. They listed four colleges: Minnesota, Ok. St., Ohio St., and Wisconsin. Hoping his buddies convince him to go with the best and become a gopher!
He has a good friend at Iowa to.
Iowa is Gross, will he even crack the lineup next year?

141 will prob be between him, Ryan, Carton and then potentially Grothus if he can effectively cut which I doubt.

Mark Hall needs to be a Gopher, or the the fan base will lose a certain amount of confidence in the staff/program.

If Mark chooses elsewhere, it will be the biggest miss since Mike Farrell and/or Matt Demaray.
He is the Minnesota's surest "sure thing" in a generation.

I wouldn't be surprised by IA as he is originally from Davison, MI the same school as Metcalf who's dad coaches the team. He just took a recruiting visit to IA as well so I don't think he's made a decision yet. If I were him I would take all the time that I want, knowing I have my choice on wherever I want to go. He's earned the right to take his time. I have high hopes that he's wearing the maroon and gold and he has plenty AV friends there as well as some freestyle friends in Stroker and LEIII. Now if Hall would commit with McKee and bring LEIII's teammate Isiah White with, this team will be next to unstoppable. Imagine this line up:

125 - Lizak/Petry
133 - McKee
141 - Thorn
149 - Parriot
157 - Stroker
165 - LEIII
174 - White
184 - Hall
197 - Steveson
HWT - Steveson or whomever until he gets here

Good grief that is a loaded roster.

I bet he has already made his decision also. Just wish people could keep their mouths shut and not stir up drama and gossip about H.S. kids. It will be a sad day if he goes elsewhere.

Where does Metcalf's dad coach? I'm quite certain that Roy Hall and Kent Elliott coach at Davison.

I never thought Hall would go to Iowa, but it could happen. I do believe Brady Berge would go to Iowa before Hall would go. Iowa could get our two six-time state champs.

I vaguely remember him giving an interview where he said his top two programs were Minnesota or Okie State. He will have his pick where he wants to go, and I wish him luck. He might as well enjoy the experience!!!

Berge can win five, not six. He was runner up as an eighth grader, I believe.

According to Isiah White's Twitter page, it says "Eat as much as you can cause I am wrestling at Ohio State."

His way old Twitter page though.

Yep, you're right; my bad. Lost to Gliva 132 AA as an 8th grader. It still would suck to lose Hall and Berge.

I hear you. I'm probably the only one that wasn't aware of his connection with Metcalf. That information and some of his comments in that last piece give me cause to worry about IA. That would suck royally!

How about being the face of Gopher wrestling, young man?

I don't understand how that isn't 2. PBS, did they provide an explanation to the coach afterwards why they said they were out? Looked like there were at least 3 points in to me
Ref said they were out of bounds. Officials were not kind to OPRF this weekend. Several WTF calls/non calls cost the kids a couple titles and 1 kid a spot on the podium.
This was called a TD in a state title match to keep another OPRF wrestler from winning a title as a senior.

2 arms wrapped around 1 leg in a crackdown:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6MaAxz8m8g&feature=youtu.be

2 legs = no td
1 leg = td
i watched this film many times, and I have no doubt that he had a takedown. (From the angle I watched and I wasn't on the mat - the officials had an even better view and a feel for control). When he rolled him up on his back (a practiced technique in a crackdown situation to secure a fall or the takedown). He adjusted his position, controlled the arm into a modified 'peterson roll' position. We teach this as well. The takedown could have been awarded at this point. Once they moved out of this position and back to the 'crack down' position, he was over the legs, kept control of the hand, controlled the hips (whether two legs or one - irrelevant - the hips were controlled) and his hips were in a position where the defensive wrestler was left with no counter to the takedown position. Control was clearly established. (IMO of course - had I been a coach on the side line, I may have felt differently, haha)
I see what your saying, but he never had true control. He needs to get that arm out and around a hip or second leg. That was not a takedown!

Mndak: "
I see what your saying, but he never had true control. He needs to get that arm out and around a hip or second leg. That was not a takedown![/quote]"

Likely we'll never agree on this but: When they returned after the roll up, he had the right leg wrapped up and also had control of his right hand, had stepped over and was straddling the legs, his hips down and low. The referee waited until he saw the step over and hip control - and that the defensive wrestler LOST his lock in the crotch or and was unable to lock around the body. You are suggesting that the wrestler who was on his butt, had only one arm partially around the body, lost his lock in the crotch (and was not allowed to adjust and lock around the body), can't re-lock in the crotch, has no opportunity to elevate his opponent, has the use of only one hand, and has both legs straddled has not lost the takedown? He does not have to get his arm out - his arm was where he wanted it - controlling his opponents hand/arm. His legs - hips can control his opponent just as much as his hands. Obviously the official felt he had control and if you look at the losing wrestler, he knew it. (The only one who didn't believe it was a takedown was the coach). The travesty would have been if they wouldn't have awarded the takedown. Look at the defensive wrestler in slow or stop action the final few seconds before the takedown was awarded - control was established, all possibility of countering the takedown was gone.

A crotch lift does not prevent a take down.

It was a premature call, 15/20 years ago i would not disagree as strongly. These kids are both elite wrestlers with great counter moves. He never had full control of his hips, he still had the ability to scoot, readjust, and score a td. The ref should wait for a definitive td! If he gets the second leg or a hip it is 2 points.

He never would have made that call in regulation and there was plenty of time for the winning wrestler to establish Control.

I think Jacob is a great wrestler, he has a motor that just doesn't stop and boy is he quick. he isn't afraid of scramble situations and that gets him in trouble sometimes just due to being impatient at times and trying to make too much happen. Jacob still has a year to develop but I would to have him in the room and see what happens in 2016-2017.

I haven't seen anything on Adam yet however if he is the youngest, I am anxious to get some video on him and see what his style is, if it is a mix of Jacob and Ethan WOW is all I could say is bring him in as well for 2019-2020
