You all forget that one of the major complaints about Cael at ISU was that he couldn't recruit and he eventually left saying that it was too hard to recruit in the midwest. Quit using him as the poster boy for recruiting.
.....And when Bill Belichick was in Cleveland he was a horrible coach. Right now its not even close, Cael is the best recruiter in college wrestling!!

"Why aren't top 25 recruits Short and Wanzek putting up bonus on guys who weren't top 100 recruits?"

Maybe being designated a "Top 25" recruit isn't what you think it is.

This is pretty convenient after you just said coaching means nothing and recruiting is all that matters.
It has nothing to do with "convenience".

The Cael and PSU pairing was the perfect storm. It has hit the ground running, picked up steam and doesn't show signs of slowing down. They are top tier in several aspects, some that have little to do with wrestling, not just recruiting.

MN found success in spite of several limitations. That trend haulted and even with changes and plans in place, they all take time.

marginalizing Cael's accomplishments doesn't help make us better.

Where Cael is has the most to do with it. It is my opinion but it is pretty obvious. Pennsylvania is the hot bed of wrestling and has produced the most AA's for as long as I can remember. When you can recruit in your back yard it's much easier. Where Cael has excelled is developing an atmosphere that creates a fun and successful environment. How did he do that? Easy... HE WON. People forget that Taylor was recruited by Cael to come to ISU and followed him to PSU. Then you already had Ruth committed to PSU. Now add on guys like that were already on the roster like Q Wright & Molinaro who all were AA's and National Champs at the same time. IA did the same thing when Brands left VA Tech and brought Metcalf and a few other AA's with him and added to a fairly decent roster already. The difference in why Cael has continued to succeed whereas IA has fallen off after the VA Tech/IA combined team graduated is recruiting. IA has landed some good guys but nowhere near the talent that PSU has. IN PSU's case getting the #1 overall recruits at many weights they have far superior talent. The difference between their #1 guy and even the #2 guy at their respective weights is very wide. Taylor far and above anyone at his weight, same as Ruth. Retherford, Nolf, Nickals, etc... all light years away from anyone their senior years at their weights. I do believe that Cael could not say a word with some of these guys and be successful. Mark Hall is one of those guys and guess where he is at.

PSU simply reloaded with guys who were #1 at their respective weights.

McIntosh, Mega, Retherford, Nolf, Nickals, Nevellis, etc... ALL #1 at their respective weight classes coming out of HS.

Yep, And they would all have done just as well at any school with nearly any coach.

Any monkey could have coached Taylor to 3 titles. How many did he get under Cael?

The whole "Recruit vs. Development" thing as been discussed enough to make us all nauseous. Believe what you want. Belittle what he's done all you want. But... He's done it and people believe in it. These are facts. You can say, "Well, he's had the best kids out of high school... Of course they should win." Yeah? We've seen many a-bust, too. Destin. Chance. Etc. He has SOMETHING to do with the development, too. Well, he and his staff. To think otherwise is simply ignorant.

You can sit and stir the pot all you want, but Cael's cooking the best gumbo right now. That isn't up for discussion. Everybody has access to the ingredients, but he gets the best ones, and he cooks the best gumbo, at this point. That could change.

I'm not saying Sanderson isn't a decent coach (technically, motivationally). I think there are many others that are just as good or better. The biggest factor in his success at PSU is his ability to recruit a roster full of #1's and 2's at their weight for several consecutive years, apparently accepting less money then they could have got elsewhere. I give him credit that not many of these guys have been "busts". Sometimes good coaching is just staying out of the way of the athletes and not over-coaching. The 9.9 scholie limit is essentially the salary cap of D1 wrestling. If a blue chip is willing to take less than their "market value" this is a huge advantage for that coach and program.

Does anyone think Casey Cunningham (Asst. HC behind Cael) would be a good person for Coyle to go after if they look outside the bubble that is Dinkytown for the permanent HC.

I would think he'd WANT to be a HC at some point. My guess is he's got connections to PA HS's as well as other places as I doubt it is just Cael recruiting....

Would be interesting to see him, Damion Hahn, Perry, Pritzlaff, Bono all get interviewed....maybe some others?

Hawk fans panicking that they might be losing Teasdale. Apparently he took down info about his commitment to Iowa on Twitter. Could be nothing, could be something.

Just think, he's still pretty undersized for the weight. Imagine how good he can be if he puts on 15 pounds in the next four years.

Oh ya sorry I forgot we were just suppose to moan and complain and expect the worst. Wont happen again! No reason for a little enjoyment around the holiday season!

Kerk is a Gopher until I am given a reason to believe otherwise. Welcome aboard! Sounds like a great family as well.
