What does it say about mn high school wrestling if there is only 1 d1 guy in a dual between two nationally ranked mn teams?
Specific to this dual, I don't think it means anything whatsoever. It's an opinion-based projection, and nobody knows with certainty how many DI wrestlers competed in the match.

The competition for the top athletes in MN is much greater than Ia., Penn., NJ., etc. The competition with hockey and other sports is greater in MN Some sports start their competitors out in the hospital just after birth and tries to makes it their life's sport until they get cut when they get to HS etc.

Franek, Robb, and Lloyd are all the same grade and about the same weight. I don't think all 3 would go to the same school.

Don't be surprised. Lloyd might end up being a 141 pounder and Franek and Robb 149 and 157 or bigger

Did they have coaches at the IL state tourney? I'd be interested in 3A 182 champ Kordell Norfleet. He majored #5 Jack Jessen in the finals to complete an undefeated year. Looks like he's still uncommitted and a little under the radar due to limited off season wrestling.

Norfleet is going to Arizona State.

I may have been born in the day time but it wasn't yesterday.
None of these young men is a college 141. Remember we are talking two years from now, three if they redshirt.

Lloyd was 145 last year and is 145 this year. He is very short. He might be done growing. It is not out of the question that he could be 141 in college.

I suppose it's in the realm of possibility, but not many athletes shrink between the age of 17-20.

It is not that unheard of for kids wrestle lower in college than high school. Heck Berge says he's going to wrestle 149 at psu after wrestling 152/160 this year.

Lots of guys end up at a lower weight in college. Way back in the day Troy Marr was at 145 in high school, wrestled at 133 until his sr yr when he went to 149. Kingsley was at 160, now at 149. Those are just 2 from MN that everybody knows. It's not crazy to say Lloyd could be at 141.

Marr never went 133. He did cut to 141 because he couldn't make the team at 149.

Robb is probably more likely to go down. Robb wrestled 126 at Fargo this past summer, and I know that he's gained some weight but he doesn't look huge.

Marr never went 133. He did cut to 141 because he couldn't make the team at 149.
In 1997 and 1998, his Redshirt So. and Jr. years he cut to 134.

1998 was the last year they had that weight after the deaths of three guys. If I remember right, they were given 7 lbs. throughout the rest of the year to help with the PR of it, which makes it 141. I don't think they "officially" renamed the weights till the 98/99 season when they became the current weights. I would assume if he had made 133, he would have been the 126lber (the future 133lbs. weight class).

Someone in the Gold Club could ask Eggum at Big10's about that season--pretty sure that is how it worked, and at multi-day tournaments, he would probably be 142, 143. The following year, they needed to make room for RFr.-Erikson, so Marr wrestled 149.

Sorry DWB. You are right. I was thinking that Marr didn't get in the line up until after the weight changed to 141. As I recall it was a heck of a cut and he wasn't particularly effective.

I think Lloyd will be the smallest of the 3. Looking at their dad's i think Robb could end up the biggest between him and Franek.

So what happens to VT recruits coming in. They have 2 top recruits at 138, 2 at 160 and 1 at 195. These are all weights of need for us.. most there recruits are from Virginia area so not sure if they would be interested in the Gophers but maybe?
