So what happens to VT recruits coming in. They have 2 top recruits at 138, 2 at 160 and 1 at 195. These are all weights of need for us.. most there recruits are from Virginia area so not sure if they would be interested in the Gophers but maybe?
Assuming Robie gets they job at VT, they still enroll at VT.

In 2013 Nick Wanzek won a state title at 170. In 2017 he is the Gophers starter at, wait for it.......165.

Lots of kids shrinking these days!
In all your examples, Kingsley, McCauley, Gross, Wanzek you are comparing the weight they wrestled at their Senior year to their college weight. I should of made it clear that when I said 17-20 I was referring to Junior year in high school to redshirt Freshman year of college. I'm sure there are a few out there, but it is much more rare to wrestle at a lower weight in college, then their Junior year of high school. Not unheard of, just rare.

Franek, Robb, and Lloyd are all the same grade and about the same weight. I don't think all 3 would go to the same school.
Regardless of where they fall in weight wise, i would bet the Bono and crew would love an opportunity to try to get all 3 in a lineup.

Ah i see. McCauley was 152 as a junior as well but yes the others were lighter their junior year. It is hard to seeing Lloyd going up much more in weight in high school with his frame and he definitely could end up at 149. I still think 141 is a strong possibility though.

Lloyd has been looking gassed by the third almost every time I've seen him at 145. He's not a small 145lber.

I want the best for the kid, as he's super fun to watch, but I wonder if maybe the plan is to continue to bulk him up? Or at least let him get closer to his natural weight? I assume he's doing it for the team.`

Part of the reason he may be gassed in the 3rd is how hard he works in the 1st two periods. If he is bigger than 149 in college he could have some major leverage issues at the height he is at.

Needs to work harder in practice and conditioning would be my recommendation. You can only go as hard in a match as you push yourself in practice.

Just thought I would throw this out there. I was in the stands waiting for the Shakopee/Apple Valley match last Friday night. A group of us were discussing Gabe Stevenson's future.

I notice Gabe makes all the home Gophers matches to watch his brother Bobby and on this night Bobby was behind the bench with the AV team cheering them on. A couple of the fellas sitting next to me were HS wrestling refs from the area. I threw out the "I sure hope Gabe goes to the Gophers".....these guys seemed to know a lot about many of these HS wrestlers. They seemed to think that Gabe going to the Gophers is a long shot at best. The story they were hearing is he may not finish his senior year because he feels there isn't enough competition for him and he may go to the OTC.

Don't throw me under the bus. Just what they said, they seemed pretty credible.....but who knows?

This was the first time I watched him in person.....wow!!

I'm going to say the refs are in the dark. Gable will almost certainly be a gopher.

For next year he will not be at the OTC. He will be at Apple Valley or going to school and wrestling with Minnesota Storm. He's still looking at options and deciding.

I saw Trevor Laws made it back into the AV practice room this week. He would be a guy to give Gable a workout.

Oh by the way Gable was wearing a Minnesota wrestling shirt in their picture together.

I realize there hasn't been much competition for him but I was really impressed with his aggressive go after it style. It would be pretty sweet if the Gophers could land this young man.

It's not my intent to derail this thread.
But... Both of the matches between Trevor Laws and John May (they split Junior and Senior years) still go down as a couple of my all time favorites.

Unfortunately Dresser knows some Ft Dodge people too and Teske already wrestles for the CWC. Outside of Gable, Teske is the wrestler I want most in the junior class. So get to twisting...

They also wrestled their sophomore year with Jon coming out on top for 3rd place. Great match. Both were dinged for stalling and Jon hit him with a beautiful lateral.

Has anybody actually said that Allar is going to be a Gopher now or is this just speculation? I wasn't aware that he had even been granted a release from his commitment yet.
