Hopefully 2 more top notch guys
I don't know if it's related but have people been hearing rumblings about RBY and Teasdale opening back up their recruitment?

Awhile back, Gable, RBY and Teasdale were all going to go to the same place. Now it looks like they are all going different places. I try not to buy too much into rumors. When a kid comments than you know, until then anything can happen.

When can a wrestler actually sign an athletic tender? I guessing that once the tender is signed that it is a binding agreement?

There are different times of the year based on sport. I believe wrestling is in November of your senior year.

This years Juniors can sign the National Letter of Intent (NLI) on November 8, 2017.

The signing period is November 8 to November 15, 2017.

You can't sign the wrestling NLI outside of that period.

NLI is a 1 year binding contract. You can not sign an NLI if you don't receive a written offer of athletics financial aid.

This site explains all the details of NLI - http://www.nationalletter.org/index.html

You can only sign one NLI per year.

Interesting that anybody would ask for a release when the rules state:

Coaching Changes

I understand I have signed this NLI with the institution and not for a particular sport or coach. If a coach leaves the institution or the sports program (e.g., not retained, resigns), I remain bound by the provisions of this NLI. I understand it is not uncommon for a coach to leave his or her coaching position.

So the reality is that a verbal commitment doesn't really mean anything? Thanks for the clarification.

The ones that didn't agree with the Eggum choice still want to come out and play? I'm pretty sure his new recruit would do some 30 second go's with ya!

Lizaks success and championship tonight 💪 [\/] will go along way in recruiting for Eggum out of state. This season was so great for the program.

Get Jared V. from PA and start mining OH and PA more...

Carr would be a good fit around 157/165. If someone would talk sense into Manville, he would be a good get for an area of need. Lord knows he's not starting for PSU anytime soon.

We need more help in the 197lbs range, unless Bobby plans to bulk up big time...

Any idea of Lance Benick? He could fill the role until Kerk is ready in 2 or 3 years

Plus he might help sway his brother to come from Shakopee in a few years.

Right now there's nothing that tells me that he would be able to beat out Balow for the spot, but who knows, maybe he just didn't match well with ASU.

A selling point I would use on recruits is getting kids that want to be the ones to take down Penn State in the future. It ain't happening next year or the year after, but down the road. Iowa won six titles in a row in the late 90's when Eggum was on the team. Minnesota stopped the 6 year streak when many thought Iowa was going to win forever. History repeats itself, no one stays on top forever.

Yes sir. Include Gable and Kerkvliet, both are going to be great, Lizaks success and they have to land a few hammers out of state.

They have 3 or 4 guys to build off of but to beat State, they needs 4 more.

Perhaps the hammers they get will be the hammers Penn St. needs to stay on top. Just getting then will affect baldy and his team.

I'm rather inexperienced when it comes to how recruiting works, but David Carr from Massillon Perry HS in Ohio seems like someone we should go after pretty hard. Schlater's were from there if I'm not mistaken, and being a 152 pound kid he could compete for a spot right away at 149 or beef up and compete right away at 157. I've watched a few of his matches on YouTube and he's an aggressive, confident kid which I think would be a good change from guys like Short and Wanzek. Thoughts?

Well that's good news. Will Aaron Cashman ever be big enough to wrestle 125?

He'll have to redshirt in order to bulk up to 135-140 before the start of his freshman campaign. Maybe he can compete as a true freshman but I think year of training, getting bigger and hitting some individual opens would help him be a better redshirt frosh. People said the same thing about McKee and look at the year he had just falling short of AA. Who knows.

I agree that Cashmen can get up to 125 in time. Lizak, Polakowski, and Petry are all currently sophmores, so they wouldn't need him there until his redshirt sophomore year.

How hard the Gophers push for Cashman, depends partially on how much they expect Pat McKee to grow.

An eventual line up of
125- Cashman
133- P McKee
141- M McKee
Sounds very appealing. Not sure if Patrick will ever get that big though. Do we anticipate Mitch McKee to ever redshirt?

I think M. McKee redshirts the same year as Patrick (and maybe Gable).

Next year could be kinda rough, especially in the upper weights, but this is what I see:
17/18
125-Lizak-Jr.
133-McKee-So. (Jones redshirting, unsure if he stays here or grows into a 141lber).
141-Thorn-Jr. (Bergeland redshirting)
149-Brolsma-So. or H. Marko-RFr.
157-Short-Sr. (Crowe redshirting)
165-Wanzek-Sr. (although I wouldn't be surprised if he bulks up and goes 174, 4/8 AA's are graduating and he pounded the 4th place finisher...165's AA's are younger) (Allar redshirting)
174-C. Pfarr-Sr.
184-Steveson-So.
197-Balow-Jr.
Hwt-Streifel-So.
(Some other scenarios, if McKee NEEDS to redshirt because he can't make 133 anymore and him and Thorn are both 141lbers next year, then 133 probably is S. Polakowski-Jr as the starter....if Wanzek goes up, I assume C.Pfarr is not a starter and maybe B. Krone-Jr. gets 165 if he can still make it which might not be possible.)...I honestly don't know who would replace Wanzek if he went up...

Don't know if Tyler Schneider is a possible 174lber or if Dylan Anderson is a 174 or 184lber next year. If you just add replacements at 197 and Hwt. We probably have 4 seniors in the lineup...

It would be great to get Jared V. to follow Allar to MN. Besides Carr, maybe they should go after someone in Cael's backyard--Sammy Sasoo--145 (#7 on the Juniors list w/Intermat)..Trent Hidlay at 160 would also be good...(guessing he'll be 170 next year and could be a 174lber down the road).

I think Verkleeren is staying at Iowa State.

I do think Allar is going to be good for Minny. I was shocked when he initially verballed to Iowa State.

I am hoping Dresser is going after Sasso (mentioned VT as top 5) and David Carr.
