I'm sure Cael finances the kids cost through his camps. He does have a good name to run a camp. He must dole out more to the wrestlers than he keeps.

According to a tweet by Manville - he still plans on attending Penn - he stated "we are - Penn State". So throw him in the mix with Berge, Verk, Lee. He looked a little heavy in Vegas, sure he could still make 157.

Does anyone know the rules on kids working camps for dollars, etc. I would think the NCAA would be quite stringent on what is allowed and at what rate per hour.

I don't see the NCAA allowing Cael to pay a kid $1,000 per hour for 25 hours at a camp to cover his annual tuition.

I would almost guess they are a lot of college athletes in many sports who works camps during the summer to make a few extra bucks and pay taxes on that money made. They are providing a service and I don't think there is a NCAA rule against that, especially it is considered out of season. If they weren't working a camp and getting that money, then I think that would be on the grounds of breaking some kind of rule

There is a rule against over paying. SMU football got caught doing it. The same with Oklahoma football.

I'm sure there are rules controlling how much academic scholarship is allowed to athletes?

Who should the Gophers be targeting the next 2 years?

They have 2 future legends in Gable and Kerkvliet. McKee, Allar and Bobby. Did I miss anyone? To compete with Penn State, we need some more blue chippers.

I am sure there is some type of cap on how much a student can receive in academic and athletic scholarships

When do we start worrying about Kerkvliet switching schools because he can't make 197. Is it next year when he wrestles 220 or his senior year when he wrestles heavyweight?

Caps, schmaps. It is well known that under-the-table money is paying their tuitions.

Any proof you would like to present.

Idk hall didn't have any issues relocating and travelling the country in highschool. Nickal was always at the big tournaments too.

In some cases I don't believe the families are after the big scholarships anymore. They seem to be after the National Titles.

This makes it seem like Verk is going to Penn State with no scholarship. If true, completely insane.

Well - either him or Berge going to be seeing some bench time in 2 years, unless they believe Verk can make 141? Does not appear Nolf is going up the next 2 years. And if Manville shows up - Pretty sure he will be fighting for 157 Also - Joseph not going anywhere anytime soon either!

It also says all those other schools offered him a full scholarship. I'd be shocked if that's true (full ride from Minnesota).

Let me see here. Pick one of the other 3 schools and get a full ride and a good shot at starting or pick PENN State and ride the pine for 4 years (if you last that long) and no scolersbip money.

I don't believe Minnesota offered Verk a full ride. It might have been less than ISU was giving him but I'm not sure.

He was offered 100%for 1 year and 80% the other 4. His diabetes and being typical teenager made his mom nervous about sending far away from home. Minnesota did a fantastic job recruiting him. 9.9 scholly's is the reason. Not enough money for everyone.

More likely they are around each other in HS so much more now. Every time a national tournament happens its like a mini reunion. So when it come to them picking a college, they want a team of guys they know and an "all in" mentality. From starting guy to riding the pine. The sport grinds on you mentally and the last thing you to be around are guys not putting in 100%. The kind of culture that the backup really wants your starting spot and is willing to work to get it. That is PSU right now. The guys that go there all think they will start. They are not calculating in their head maybe someone will move up or graduate. They go in with "I am the guy". It's what I hope continues to grow with the Gophers.

With only 9.9 schollys, that seems like the Gophers put together a very good offer.

There is no way PSU had those dollars left, at least I hope not  , to offer. As a parent, I understand the proximity is a big attraction. Best of luck to the young man. If the room gets too crowded, keep Brandon on speed dial.

But get in-state tuition (I think hes from PA, right?) be on a probably 4 time NCAA Champion team and compete against national champions daily in practice.

In addition to being close to your family.

Don't forget the potential $80-100,000 in debt if it is true he is attending with no scholarship as his coach mentioned in an article.
