I have seen so many refs out of position to call a fall. It is so much easier to see the fall from the feet side and yet so many refs are up by the head looking for the pin when it is so obvious from the back side. Their jobs would be much easier if they would just go down by the feet to look for the fall. They can still look up by the head to make sure everything is still legal etc...

I guess I'm not understanding.....every position is different. If a ref is looking on the feet side, there are a lot of times where the wrestlers butt will be in the way. I guess it depends.

Proper positioning is something that every official works on from day 1. It is not as easy of an answer as "standing down by the feet". In many cases, a position straight out from the head is the ideal place to observe a potential fall. Once one shoulder is clearly down, refs often move in closer to the action to watch the shoulder that is up. Yes, sometimes things change suddenly and it would be great to be able to also observe from the feet at the same time, but refs have to decide on the best position in each situation.

This isn't just a personal preference type thing - Thousands of hours of matches have been studied to try to identify the optimal position for each pinning combination and refs work to identify each situation and ensure that they are in the best possible situation to observe a fall.
