I have seen this a few times I am wondering at which point if any it becomes illegal? Wrestler A has wrestler B broken down and hits a hard but not illegal cross-face but makes no attempt to gain advantage from it. Wrestler A then waits 4 or 5 seconds and does it again, hard but not illegal with no attempt to capture the elbow...and so on. I have seen it like 4 to 5 times in a 30 second period. Just want some clarification on if this is a judgment thing or what? Thanks Edited by Ricksonbyarmbar, Mar 3 2015, 03:13 PM.

OK, I understand, but lets just assume for arguments sake that he is making zero attempt an gaining the cross face or even securing then abandoning it. |

What is your definition of "a hard but not illegal cross face". If the wrestler is "hitting" a cross face for punishment, intimidation or with unnecessary force - it is illegal. Consider a similar situation: The wrestler is on his base, or even on his stomach, the top wrestler hits a hard cross face - but it is across the stomach or chest instead of the face. Almost every coach and fan would scream that the wrestler is 'slugging' the wrestler and should be penalized or eq'd. The hard, "legal" cross face is actually a bi-cept punch, it can and has caused concussions. If the cross face is moderate, I'll give a warning maybe, the next is penalty for unnecessary roughness and flagrant misconduct if it happens again. Of course this is just one coach/official's interpretation. |
