As Cropduster posted in the Greco thread, Berge and Owens go tomorrow. Iowan also posted a live stream will start at 3 am central. Medal matches start at 1:00 PM. Stream is pretty good quality. Crop, I figured Freestyle could get its own thread. Here's an article from Willie at Flo Saturday, August 29th 42kg - Malik Heinselman vs. Rai Hayashi (AZE) *Hayashi was not the representative at the European Championships. Mammaddaliev represented Azerbaijan and earned a bronze medal. The top half of the bracket features the European Silver medalist, Kara Dogan from Turkey and an Asian Championship bronze medalist in Islom Ilkhomov. They could potentially meet in the quarterfinals. Malik Heinselman resides in the bottom bracket and could see the European Champion in the quarterfinals with a first round win. Tornike Katmadze of Georgia was victorious at the European Championships at the beginning of August. The bracket is fairly balanced with your traditional power countries. 50kg - Gavin Teasdale vs. Igor Nykyforuk (UKR) *Nykyforuk was not the representative at the European Championships. Postol represented Ukraine and was 5th Gavin Teasdale sits in a nice spot at the top half of the bracket. The two bronze medalists from the European Championships (GEO and TUR) looked to be on a collision course in the quartfinal opposite of Teasdale's path. Vanishvili (GEO) also took 5th at the 2014 Worlds. The entire quarter bracket for Teasdale is unknown because other wrestlers represented their countries at their respective continental championships. The bottom bracket is loaded with power countries, including the Azeri that won the European Championships. A lot of the power countries have a different representative from who they sent to other championships. Efran Aeini is a returning World Champion. He won the title at 46kg last year. 58kg - Yianni Diakomihalis vs. Maksat Talkambaev (KGZ) *Talkambaev was not the representative at the Asian Championships. Akmataliev represented Kyrgystan and earned a bronze medal. Aleko Lomidze struck gold at the European Championships and has the credentials in the top bracket. He drew Iran right away so keep and eye on that bout. Japan won the Asian Championships at 50kg, but they have a different representative here at Worlds. Yianni D resides in the bottom with a lot of power countries without credentials. Russia, Azerbaijan, and Bulgaria all have different representatives than they sent to Euros. 69kg - Brady Berge vs. Dawid Piskorz (POL) *Piskorz was not the representative at the European Championships. Malicki represented Poland finishing deep down in the field. The top half of the bracket contains the gold and a bronze medalist from the Euros. Julakidze (GEO, gold) and Abdullaev (AZE, bronze) could potentially meet in the bottom quarter of the top half. Berge is in the bottom bracket with a few power countries. However, Russia has reloaded this weight with another wrestler after the representative at Euros brought home a silver medal. Bulgaria is a potential second round opponent for Berge and he replaces their 5th place finisher from Euros. The bracket is very balanced with the power countries. 85kg - Owen Webster vs. Yaraslau Slavikouski (BLR) *Slavikouski finished 9th at the European Championships. The top bracket is home to a European bronze medalist, Beka Tchelidze (GEO), and a handful of other power countries. Russia won the Euros, but they once again have a different representative. The bottom of the bracket is where Webster landed with his draw. Belarus and Uzbekistan wrestled at their continental championships and finished 9th and 10th. They are both potential opponents for Webster. Rahid Hamidli from Azerbaijan was 5th at Euros and is the only wrestler with credentials in the bottom quarter. These are the first round match-ups for freestyle action on Saturday, August 29th. Action begins at 4am EST. Sunday, August 30th 46kg - Dylan D'emilio 54kg - Daton Fix 63kg - Jarod Verkleeren 76kg - Joe Grello 100kg - Gable Steveson Link to the live stream: Cadet Freestyle Worlds |
