MN/USA Folkstyle Wrestling State Tournament 2016

Happy New Year!
State Folkstyle is right around the corner! Time to get signed up for the best seats in the house. Every club will need to work 1 table each session. In order to receive Coaches passes for your club you will need to be signed up to help. Depending on how many wrestlers your club brings, you may need to take 2 tables. We need all tables filled by March 1.

We have 13 tables to fill for the Friday session, 16 tables for both sessions on Saturday, and 16 tables on Sunday. You will need 3 people signed up to work a table (2 to work and 1 to float to give you a break).

You will receive your admission fee back at the end of the tournament for every session you work. We will also supply you with food and drinks.

Please submit your Club name, Contact Name, Contact Email, Contact Phone Number, and what sessions you will be working below so I can reserve your table.

Thanks in advance for all your help,
Julie Granroth
MN/USAW Table Worker Director

Maybe I am missing something but I can't find the schedule for the state tournament anywhere on the MN/USA site. It would be nice to know which age groups would be wrestling on which day so we can coordinate with parents to set up table workers. If it is already posted please point me in the right direction to find it. Thanks.

Hi - The Kid tournament in Rochester only goes up to Schoolboy this year. Cadets & Juniors will wrestle on March 5th in Anoka. Juniors is a new addition this year.

IMO very poor decision for MN/USA to host a Cadet/Junior Folkstyle tournament 1 week after the Minnesota State High School tournament when most of these wrestlers will be there!!!

Why do you feel it is a poor decision ?

Its the week after the MSHSL tourney is over, so no conflict there.....

People have complained for years about Kids/Cadets State Folkstyle being too crowded, so now by removing the Cadet group and mixing in with the Juniors ? Its great, and its now a "big-boy" tournament, just like Junior State.
Another positive is these kids can choose to cut, or not....freestyle season is the following week, some might really, really enjoy forgetting all about weight, and just wrasslin....

Kudos to the folks at Anoka HS for taking this on-I will be there helping if I am able. B)

Whole idea seems like a win-win to me......... ;)

I think this is progress. Most of the kids that wrestle MSHSL state have traditionally not wrestled MNUSA folkstyle state even when it was two weeks later. Maybe adding Junior Folkstyle into the mix will change that, but this is progress for the youth tournament.

I think adding Schoolboy-Girl into the Anoka tournament merits consideration as well. Maybe next year. In the meantime, my appreciation goes out to the MNUSA Board for trying something different.

Every year seems to be a new treasure hunt to find info on this tourney. Can you let us know where it's hidden this year? It's not under the most intuitive locations like divisions>kids, nor events and not on the home page of course. Would be great to have 1 page that shows or at least links to qualifying procedures and results, how to register, the agenda, hotels, etc. It's only one of your biggest events of the year.

Please? I don't need as much as BS, but would like to know the schedule, weigh-ins, and location. Potential first-time attendee interested in signing up for the chaos. Thank you.

Weigh in times? Do schoolboys really have to weigh in friday and drop $125 bucks for a hotel?

I am working with the board to find a tournament schedule to post. Currently, Schoolboys/schoolgirls weigh-in on Saturday morning and wrestle that afternoon. those weigh-in will be in the basketball court.

I think some are forgetting about the families that have multiple kids at different levels. You just added another weekend trip for those out state folks. One weekend, one venue saved them time and money.

How about removing the requirement for cadets to wrestle at state to go to nationals? if you are taking them away from the kids tournament and putting them with the JR's that don't have that requirement change the cadet rule.

Why is it so hard to get any info about the State tournament? Folk style state is MN/USA biggest event, why don't they do a better job promoting it? Why didn't every club president get info about the current change? Why aren't the club? presidents bombarded with emails from MN/USA instead of clubs searching for info
? A mass email takes 5 min. This group constantly drops the ball on communication. We can do better!
