You mean Dawson Boyd/LQP/Montevideo United I assume. Willmar was the 5th place team from region 2, so if that is not a misprint I assume they are filling in for someone who opted out. |

STMA wins 37-31. Way to go ACGC for such a small single A school competing with all these big schools and it comes down to the last match.

I noticed the some teams didn't have varsity kids compete on 9th grade state teams and some did, what happens for individual 9th grade state if you are a 9th grader that is on varsity is this for you? What's the protocol? |

You have to adhere to the MSHSL rules on events and match count. If a varsity wrestler wants to compete, they will have to sit out a varsity event. |

Not necessarily. They only need to adhere to the 16 event and 45 match maximums. |

The protocol is 9th grade under, each program has their own preference. Our program has several 9th graders on varsity, generally it is due to necessity, based on numbers not ability. All 9th graders participate in team, if they didn't all participate we would not have a full team. For individual only wrestlers with a below .500 record participate in individual. example @ 113 our 9th grader is 14-10, he was not included in the individual portion @ 106 our 9th graders record is 2- 16, he was allowed to participate not saying it is right or wrong, but that is our protocol |

They must adhere to the 16 event 45 match limit or they are ineligible to compete on varsity. They may even have to forfeit events wrestled in previously if they excede the limits. |

For example : We have one seventh, two eighth and one ninth grader who are regular starters on varsity. We have 16 varsity events on our schedule. For every ninth grade league event that they wrestle, they will have to sit out one varsity event. Most of the time, they sit out a dual meet or triangular, which makes the most sense. However, as a fan it makes it difficult to enjoy duals and tri's when there are five forfeits. Personally I would like to see the MSHSL exempt all JV and 9GL from the 16 event count as long as wrestlers adhere to the 45 match count. |

That would only encourage more high quality 9th grade wrestlers to compete in 9th grade league. I like the way Bemidji does it. MAHACA is keeping some of their better kids out of 9th grade league as well. I think that is good. I don't see why a kid that will end up with 20 wins on varsity should wrestle in 9th grade league. I get it for the dual portion, but for individuals I don't. If a 7-9 grader is looking at a chance to place in the top 4 in their varsirty section, they will have plenty of time to shine as a varsity wrestler and really shouldn't consider 9th grade league as much of an accomplishment anyway. Wouldn't you rather be all Conference on varsity than section champ in 9th grade league?(West Central Conference tournament is the same day as region 2 individual section tournament) It would be nice to have more consistency, but with the range of programs in 9th grade league I don't see that happening. I guess if I was a 9th grader(7th-9th) and I won the 9GR state tournament, I would want to say I was the best 7-9 wrestler in the state. Not the best non-varsity wrestler. That's what JV is for. (just my opinion) |

But that will never be the case, because the best 7-9 graders in the state are not wrestling in 9th grade league. Some are not even on a participating team. 9th grade league is JV. |
