Did this get filled or has anyone heard rumors? Seems like a waste of an opportunity to get more college wrestling in MN and nationwide. You would think they could pull some outstate kids in there and be pretty tough. It's also not unheard of to wrestle and play football in D3, so you could pull a FB player who was also a tough Heavyweight. |

Application window doesn't close for another week. Interviews are shortly thereafter. To your point, SJU has had a number of successful football players and heavyweights. One from my days is coaching at Dassel-Cokato now. Also, the current SJU heavyweight was a Minnesota state champion and also plays football. The former head coach, Brandon Novak (I believe he was an All-American in both football and wrestling), is now a full-time football coach at SJU, so that angle will definitely be played in the recruiting process. |

I'm hoping that current Interim Head Coach, Tony Willaert, is named the permanent Head. The timeline suggested that a Head Coach wouldn't be named until July. I hope we hear something before that. Tony just reached out to me and congratulated my son on his enrollment to Saint John's next Fall. He's a good egg and an alumni of St. John's. Tony speaks highly of St. John's and I hope he is treated fairly. In my mind, Tony is an investment that St. John's shouldn't let go. |

If they don't name a coach until July that would be horrible for recruiting, I hope that's not the case. |

I know that three candidates (Tony being one of them) were interviewed last week. It was a thorough process with several different group and individual meetings throughout the day for each candidate, but I can't imagine that it will take until the summer to have a decision. |
