I have never been a fan of Ramos but in this case I feel for him. Dennis was leaving and he was staying. Brands is a a hole and always has been.

Ramos lied to, misled and betrayed by his coaches.
http://www.flowrestling.org/video/966258-ramos-feels-betrayed-by-iowa
whahhhhh...sorry, but grow up, Tony Ramos....

what do you think happens day in, day out, at the OTC in Colorado ? Or at the MTC here in Mpls ?Or any number of other Regional Training Sites all over the US....

Do you think the coaches there promise a spot to one guy, and everybody else is just supposed to be a throwing dummy/practicepartner ? Nope. It's every man for himself. Sorry if you got the impression that is what you were promised...but maybe the training in the room showed the coaches otherwise ?

The guy who wrestled better won the spot.....
not saying he is the better wrestler, but Daniel Dennis brought it tonite when he needed to.

There is a really good article on Daniel Dennis's story out there. It was on the Hawkeye's website but I think the des Moines register wrote it. Basically Dennis came back to help the team train for Nationals and the coaches in the room were basically asking why isn't this guy making a run at the trials. They convinced him to give it a go and the rest us history.

Yeah, Ramos is being a sore loser.

Cox went through some tough wrestlers to win this weekend, hopefully he can qualify for Rio. His confidence is soaring.

Agree. I was cheering for Dake to win, but Cox was just too tough. Which in my opinion is a good sign, hoping he qualifies the weight and gets to Rio....

His strength and arm span at that weight make him very tough to defend. Dake got in on a couple of nice shots but Cox was able to stop him dead in his tracks and counter. The great thing is he is only 21? years old, so his international career is just beginning.

I bet Ramos looks real attractive to other premier coaches. I mean, who wouldn't want to coach a wrestler that attacks his coach (that supported him for years) in a press conference after a loss?

I wonder how long he plans to make 86kg (189lbs). I bet he walks around at 220+ with 5-7% body fat. The guy makes college 197lbers look small.

Right now his size will help make up for inexperience at the world level. But you are right he may be bumped up a weight class in 2020. Selfishly I would like to see a Cox vs. Snyder best of 3 series or heck just one match.

Looked mostly like his size was too tough for Dake.

I really really hate the crappy tiebreaker rule. What if the Super Bowl ended tied and the Broncos won because they had a longer td play? Or scored last?

Knowing who will win, they can stall their butt off the last 30 with no repercussion as long as they stay in bounds (too little time to go on the shot clock). Worst rule ever. Gifted Frank the Tank into the Olympics as well since he didn't really beat 3 guys he got wins against.

Well, I'm still crying over Ness-Pico. Just a sad thing to watch happen.

I may become a freestyle fan, but only if they change the bulls**t criteria rules. Send them into a 1 minute sudden death and then if they are still tied a judges decision determines the winner. Also not a fan of the random shot clock which sometimes decides the fate of the match.

From his interviews after the national tournament it sounds like he has to work to keep his weight up for 197.

Had Pico not crawled off the mat, Jayson would have finished him off. It appeared Jayson was unable to get past his head hands defense after the first take down and ended up extended with every shot.

The system is not perfect, but it is much better than it has been in the past.
-Grabbing a ball out of a bag
-The Clinch
-1 point take downs
-Single Gut wrenches and single leg laces only
-each period being a separate match

Tiebreaker criteria still sucks. Just because those other things suck doesn't mean this doesn't.

I would actually prefer single gut and leg laces (if that means you can only get one 2 with each separate move).

I kind of like the biggest point move criteria but am not a fan of last to score being a criteria.

The shot clock is meant to be a motivator to score. When you watch the top Senior level guys competing, it doesnt "work" as well as its supposed to. Theyre just that good, and its just not vry easy to "just score" on the other. So although we don't like the tie-breaker or -score yet rules, I have to agree with Bluntman, its still MUCH better than what we had before.

any rule is useless if not enforced evenly and adequately. BUT- you wont hear this gal criticizing any ref's, I didnt watch any of the matches that have been discussed here where the athletes were said to be running- so I have no further comment :$

While the intent is good, It's useless at Sr level. The guy off the clock shuts down so the guy on the clock can't score. Doesn't promote scoring imo

If someone is deemed passive in the last :30, they should receive a caution and a point for the other wrestler. However, they RARELY hit people with that call, especially when a match is at stake.

Except when Nashon got screwed for being the better wrestler for 5:50 of the match

Regarding the Ness Pico match. Sitting right above it Saturday, to my son and I it was a simple matter of the 19 year old coming on strong and the kinda older guy starting to bog.
